Penis Light Display Angers Brooklyn Residents

A penis-shaped holiday light display has residents in one Brooklyn neighborhood outraged, and now it’s going viral on social media as a hilarious prank. Meanwhile, others are debating on whether or not it’s an acceptable way to share season’s greetings. Death And Taxes reports that the owner of the offensive decoration hasn’t been identified, but their neighbors are coming forward to express disgust for what they’re doing. Is this light display really offensive, or is it all just cheeky fun in an otherwise serious world?

The display was erected in the window of an apartment approximately a week ago, facing the neighborhood where other residents can gaze upon its penis-shaped glory. The entire thing is about six-feet-tall, and is little more than a string of lights arranged to look like a massive outline of a man’s genitalia. Neighbors of the man who put up the display of lights are outraged. One neighbor, Alyson Redinger, told media reporters that it upsets her.

“Are you 18? How old are you? It makes me mad.”

Another neighbor complained to the building’s maintenance manager, for some reason, and the man shared the sentiments with reporters.

“He was pretty disappointed. He didn’t know how to tell his grandkids [about the penis light display].”

Meanwhile, folks on social media are eating this story up as it goes viral. Most people appear to think it’s a hilarious prank, and that neighbors are taking things too seriously. Others think it’s simply inappropriate and distasteful. There are also people commenting that similar penile decorations have gone up in their own neighborhoods.

This isn’t the first time a holiday prank has gone viral. A video is currently circulating of a dad giving his children “bad presents” for an early Christmas. The video shows the kids excitedly opening two presents early, but what they got would disappoint most kids — an onion and a banana. Instead of throwing the mother of all holiday meltdowns, the two children laughed and said “thank you” to their joker of a dad. Another holiday prank went viral in 2013, but almost got the teen pranksters arrested. The duo used small air-filled rubber balloons, acting like they were going to pelt total strangers with snowballs. Most of the targets of the prank laughed at the good fun, but a cop had to put a stop to the fun.

What do you think about the penis holiday light display? Is it an infantile prank that nobody should be laughing at, or does this guy really know how to spread some Christmas cheer? Regardless of the feelings of this man’s neighbors, it doesn’t look like he intends on taking down the “rude” display anytime soon.
