Burgess Jenkins’ Final Air Date Revealed: When Is He Leaving ‘Y&R’?

Burgess Jenkins announced his intentions to leave The Young and the Restless several weeks ago. While it is unclear exactly why he chose to exit, it has some fans on edge wondering where the character is headed. Jenkins plays Billy Abbott, a role held by Billy Miller for quite some time. Between Miller and Burgess Jenkins in the role, David Tom was hired. After he didn’t work out, the Y&R staff used Jenkins as his replacement. While he was never going to be as good as Miller, fans were growing to like him in the role.

According to Celeb Dirty Laundry, Burgess Jenkins’ final air date will be January 8. There have been no confirmations on how he will exit the role, but speculations are that it will be in an accident. Some are even going as far as to assume Billy Abbott will be needing plastic surgery. Jason Thompson will be assuming the role for Jenkins, which means there has to be some explanation for the very different look of Billy Abbott. Currently, Billy is involved in a dangerous situation with Victor Newman and he will be spiraling out of control. Will a confrontation with Victor leave Billy reeling enough to cause an accident?

Because he is no stranger to acting, it was shocking to learn that Burgess Jenkins wanted to exit his role as Billy Abbott on The Young and the Restless. Many fans recognized him as Staff Sergeant Eddie Hall from Army Wives. While he wasn’t on the series long, he made a lasting impression. Jenkins also played on the hit One Tree Hill, which is where much of his following came from. It looks like Genoa City just wasn’t feeling like home anymore and Burgess Jenkins decided not to renew his contract.

Stepping into a role like Billy Abbott wasn’t an easy thing. The Young and the Restless fans were devastated to lose Billy Miller to General Hospital, several of them vowing to boycott the new Billy no matter who was hired for the roll. As time has gone on there has been harsh criticism for Burgess Jenkins, even if it wasn’t always warranted. Soap fans often take their comments to the extreme, not thinking about who is reading them and how they would affect the actor who is reading them. Jenkins has been quite mum about his decision to leave, but he did mention he was thankful for the fans who stood by him.

Billy Abbott restarted Paragon, and everyone knows it. According to SoapShows, Burgess Jenkins will have some intense scenes with Eric Braeden coming up. Victor Newman knows that Billy Abbott released the virus again and he is going to make sure he pays. The Young and the Restless fans know that when Victor Newman sets his mind to something, it gets done. With Burgess Jenkins set to leave in a little less than a month, the story line for his exit has already begun. There are so many loose ends to tie up before Jason Thompson can take over the role.

As the next several weeks wind down on The Young and the Restless, Burgess Jenkins will be wrapping up his story line as Billy Abbott. Going in, fans knew that Jason Thompson was a favorite as a recast, but no one really though that Jenkins would leave. Things have been hard with trying to get Billy Abbott liked once again, but fans were finally coming around. When Burgess Jenkins wraps filming for the CBS soap, there will likely be an announcement. Right now his final air date is listed as January 8 but that hasn’t been confirmed by the network. While Burgess Jenkins wasn’t the original Billy Abbott, he will still be remembered as one of the men who played the character.
