Lauren Manzo Talks Televised Weight Struggle

Real Housewives of New Jersey star Lauren Manzo has said she doesn’t regret sharing her struggle to shed weight, a growing problem in the nation. However, Manzo told US Weekly that it wasn’t exactly easy to watch herself deal with image problems over the years.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey star who has tried and failed at many weight loss programs including Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, and LA Weight Loss said, “It’s hard seeing yourself on TV. The camera doesn’t add 10 pounds, it adds 800 pounds!”

According to Manzo, the next best thing was to undergo surgery at 180 pounds, keeping the radical decision to herself instead of publicly announcing her move behind the weight loss. “When I first got it, I didn’t want to tell anybody. So many fans related to my struggle, I didn’t want to feel like I was letting them down,” Lauren said.

The daughter of Caroline Manzo, another star of the show, in the past has criticized her only daughter’s weight gain, at times calling Lauren, “8 pounds of sausage in a 5-pound bag.” However, the younger Manzo insists that her tough love criticisms helped her thrive and put her in the right mindset to lose weight on her own terms.

“If I my mom weren’t so blunt with me, I wouldn’t be as happy as I am today,” said Lauren. “I know she didn’t mean anything by it. She has always told me I am beautiful — my father and brothers, too.”

According to Lauren she has a long way to go as far as her weight is concerned. The star plans to lose 35 more pounds. Manzo, who hasn’t settled on an exact weight goal says that she’ll decide when it’s time to stop losing weight, “When I hit 120, I’ll decide if I want to go to 115. I’m motivated.”
