Jessa Seewald Gets Her Own Duggar ‘Buddy Team,’ Joy Anna Is Baby Spurgeon’s Backup ‘Sister Mom’

The Duggar family is known for their large family size and unique approach to life. One of the well-known aspects of the Duggar family is their “buddy system.” Michelle Duggar has been open about the “buddy system,” in which each older child is given the duty of caring for one of the younger children. However, it seems that the buddy system doesn’t end when the older Duggar children leave the home and start a family of their own. Though Jessa Seewald is only raising one child at the moment, that hasn’t stopped the Duggar family from providing her with a backup “sister mom” should she need any help. Joy-Anna Duggar has been on baby duty with Spurgeon Elliot Seewald since his birth and has been featured in a number of videos and photos caring for the newborn.

Jessa Seewald recently gave birth to her first child, son Spurgeon Elliot Seewald. The new mother gave birth at home but was quickly rushed to the hospital after she began to bleed heavily post-birth. Although the birth was not easy for Jessa, it seems that caring for her new son won’t be a problem since it appears she has a backup “sister mom” to help tend to the baby’s needs.

Joy Anna Duggar has been photographed and captured on video caring for her nephew, Spurgeon Elliot Seewald, on numerous occasions. The doting aunt can be seen holding the crying baby in the video below as Jessa walks around the room filming the Duggars’ singing Christmas songs.

The Duggars call Joy-Anna’s part in helping raise Spurgeon simply an expanded “buddy system,” but others like the group Duggar Family News say it amounts to the child having a secondary “sister mom.” In this case, Joy-Anna would be an “aunt mom” and would be charged with helping Jessa when needed. It appears that anytime baby Spurgeon is at the Duggar compound, Joy-Anna is there to take on the mothering duties.

However, Joy Anna’s duties as “secondary mom” do not end with Jessa. Joy Anna appears to be charged with caring for all of the Duggar daughters and even daughter-in-law Anna.

The role as backup mom seems to be taking a toll on Joy-Anna Duggar. The normally cheery Duggar daughter seems somewhat flustered in multiple videos as baby Spurgeon begins to cry and looks less-than-thrilled in the photo above as she cares for Meredith.

Nevertheless, Joy Anna’s duties seemingly began early, as one of the earliest photographs of baby Spurgeon was taken in the hospital and featured Joy-Anna Duggar holding the new baby in front of a hospital duties board. However, it isn’t just baby Spurgeon who Joy-Anna has been charged with caring for in the Duggar household. Aside from her Duggar sibling “buddies,” Joy-Anna was also named Israel Dillard’s official “Duggar buddy.”

In fact, Joy-Anna traveled to Central America with Jill and Derick Dillard to help care for baby Israel while the young couple studied with a Spanish tutor. However, with Jill Dillard promising to remain in Central America for “a while” before returning to the United States, it seems the Duggar family felt that Joy-Anna could better serve Jessa Seewald as a parenting partner.

When the Duggar family discussed the “Duggar buddies” for baby Israel, they included two other backup Duggars, Jason and Jennifer, on the team. Therefore, if Jill returns to the United States with baby Israel, there won’t be any problem having a Duggar buddy waiting to lend a helping hand. Of course, there is also always Jana Duggar, the oldest Duggar sister dubbed “Cinderella Duggar” by some fans since she is always seen cleaning or caring for the large Duggar family for Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar.

What do you think about the Duggar family offering “Duggar buddies” or “sister moms” to the older Duggar daughter’s with children? Do the Duggar daughters need help, considering they each only have one child at the moment?
