The full text of President Obama’s speech from the Oval Office on Sunday, December 6, is going viral in a big way. First off, the full text of Mr. Obama’s speech from the Oval Office about terrorism and other topics was published by the Associated Press.
On Twitter, viewers are reacting to President Obama’s speech and the full text of the speech so much that Twitter lists the hashtag #ObamaSpeech as the top trending topic as of this writing, with nearly 55,000 tweets pouring into the social media site within the hour that the speech was completed.
The White House also published the transcript of the President Obama’s speech.
One specific mistake pointed out within the text of President Obama’s speech involved the type of visa that Tashfeen Malik used to enter the U.S. As reported by the Associated Press, Mr. Obama should’ve called Malik’s visa a fiancée visa.
No doubt, readers are likely sending articles like the one on Heavy titled “Obama Speech on San Bernardino & ISIS Full Text Transcript” into nearly 10,000 views because they want to know exactly what the president said about ISIS, guns and the San Bernardino attacks.
The president opened with statements about the 14 people killed in the San Bernardino attack, especially the fact that the attack happened during a holiday party. President Obama then explained that his speech’s text would include talk about terrorism, ISIS, and keeping Americans safe.
“The FBI is still gathering the facts about what happened in San Bernardino, but here is what we know. The victims were brutally murdered and injured by one of their coworkers and his wife. So far, we have no evidence that the killers were directed by a terrorist organization overseas, or that they were part of a broader conspiracy here at home. But it is clear that the two of them had gone down the dark path of radicalization, embracing a perverted interpretation of Islam that calls for war against America and the West. They had stockpiled assault weapons, ammunition, and pipe bombs. So this was an act of terrorism, designed to kill innocent people.”
Mr. Obama spoke about being at war against terrorism ever since September 11, 2001, and the tragic attacks on the country. The president then spoke of the terrorism threat going to a new level, and how ISIS grew in strength during the wars in Iraq and Syria. President Obama also spoke of how the world wide web helped to organize ISIS and helped ISIS recruit others to their mission.
Although some criticize President Obama for being soft on terrorists, the president reiterated in his speech how much he has given the go-ahead for terrorists to be killed.
“For seven years, I’ve confronted this evolving threat each morning in my intelligence briefing. And since the day I took this office, I’ve authorized U.S. forces to take out terrorists abroad precisely because I know how real the danger is. As Commander-in-Chief, I have no greater responsibility than the security of the American people.”
President Obama spoke of himself as a dad to two young children who sees the humanity in the faces of those people who died at the holiday party in San Bernardino, and as such Mr. Obama wants to do all he can to address the very real threat of terrorism. He spoke of stomping out ISIS, but not doing it with tough talk and empty rhetoric.
“We will destroy ISIL and any other organization that tries to harm us.”
It was a moving speech that displayed the joy of the Christmas season, as holiday lights were reflected in the window of the Oval Office from where President Barack Obama spoke on December 6. His address to the U.S. from the Oval Office of the White House was only the third time he spoke and addressed the nation in such a manner during his entire presidency.
