Usher Breaks Silence About His Secret Wedding, Sees First Marriage As ‘Best Mistake’
Usher has been hush-hush about some rather big news. The “Caught Up” hitmaker, has, however, confirmed that he has just recently tied the knot in a secret wedding ceremony.
Usher married Grace Miguel in a ceremony outside of the United States. The singer revealed the news on The Ellen DeGeneres Show this week. Usher and Grace were in Cuba on a cultural exchange, which is when they went ahead with the nuptials. Usher thanked Ellen for her kind words about he and Grace taking the plunge when she asked how it all took place.
‘Thank you! [We married] in Cuba – it was really great. You know what’s funny? We put this picture up and we were actually just in Cuba on a cultural exchange and people were like, ‘Hey, they got married.’ But you know, the ring is on the other finger, you guys. But we had a great time. [Grace is a] wonderful woman.”
In addition to broadly describing his new wife, Grace, as an “wonderful woman,” Bang reminds as to Usher’s lengthier version as to all the reasons he has fallen for his new bride.
“I have an incredible partner and manager. She has helped me through some of the hardest times in my life and my career. She’s someone who’s been able to support and understand all of who I am. Not just as a dancer or as a performer or as a singer, but as a humanitarian and a business man and as a person.”
Although the singer and dance superstar has just recently shared in regards to his wedding to Grace, Usher and his new wife were actually wed in September. As Entertainment Tonight reported, this marks Raymond’s second marriage. his first was to Tameka Foster, 44, who he wed back in 2007. Usher and Foster share two sons together- 8-year-old Usher Raymond, and 6-year-old Naviyd Ely Raymond. The star and Foster parted ways in 2009, however Usher has recently surprisingly stated that getting married at 28-years-old was his “best” mistake. This is interesting seeing as Foster and Raymond were involved in a “highly publicized three-year custody battle” after they split in 2009, as ET reported.
The entertainment site also refers to an appearance Usher made on Oprah during which he reflected with fondness on his first marriage and saw the good in it, regardless of the trials that came during the custody battle.
“Most people probably think I regret it because I ended up getting divorced, but it helped me learn that sometimes I think I know more than I actually do.”
Since the air has settled, Usher and Tameka have worked out the custody issues, and Tameka has also shared that she feels partially to blame for their marriage failing and is upfront about the mistakes she made during the marriage. ET relays her words on the matter.
“I undertook a lot in getting into such a public relationship, and I think I nagged him as a result of what I was going through. I was just always in his ear. I was being such a b**ch.”
Usher, 37, seems ready for a fresh start as a married man, and it’s clear that he’s also aware of the mistakes he had made. Grace and the singer not only tied the knot in Cuba, but also made the most of their time there and ended up enjoying their honeymoon in the exotic locale as well. Grace and Usher first became acquainted due to her taking on the role as the superstar’s voice coach. The relationship blossomed from there.
