Kim Kardashian: The Health Problems She Overcame To Give The Gift Of Life

Ultra celebrity couple Kim Kardashian and Kanye West turned their family of three into four this morning, December 5, when Kim gave birth to their son, whose name has not yet been released. Though originally due on Christmas Day, according to a related report from the Inquisitr, the newest Kardashian baby entered the world a few weeks early, following in the footsteps of his sister, North, who is now 2-years-old.

The first pregnancy Kim Kardashian endured was very difficult, as she developed a dangerous health condition called preeclampsia, which causes high blood pressure during pregnancy. Despite the fact that the Kardashian queen also had placenta accreta, a condition where the placenta grows into the uterus and therefore had a high chance of requiring a complete hysterectomy following a second birth, Kim was not daunted, reports the Huffington Post.

Kanye and Kim spent many months attempting to become pregnant with their second child, despite all the health risks. This speaks volumes of Kardashian’s desire for another baby, considering the traumatic and painful ordeal Kim Kardashian underwent directly following North’s birth, when her doctor had to actually reach inside of Kim and scrape the placenta from her uterus using his fingernails.

In the hopes of helping other women who were battling infertility issues, Kim chose to be open about her own journey into the unknown world of infertility, detailing much of her struggles on the family reality series, Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

In January of this year, at the E! International Press Junket in Los Angeles, Kim Kardashian talked a bit about the frustration of trying to conceive again and enduring failure month after month, the Daily Mail reports.

“It’s been more challenging to get pregnant the second time around. When you’re not planning it, it happens. It’s just how God works. And when you want it so bad, it’s not happening… “

Recently, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian West learned that their baby boy had not moved into the head down birthing position, and instead was in the breech position, with his tiny head up and his little feet down. Determined to avoid a C-section, Kim Kardashian chose instead to undergo a procedure to have the child turned. According to Us Weekly, the procedure, though painful, resulted in success.

“This weekend, I checked into the hospital and underwent a procedure called an ECV (External Cephalic Version, or a Version), which is done to manually turn the baby from a breech position to a head-down position. They gave me an IV with medication to relax my uterus, and then three doctors attempted to work together to turn the baby.

“There was a risk that my water might break or the baby’s heart rate could drop—in which case, an emergency C-section would then take place. I went in with my sisters and my husband [Kanye West]. I was prepared for it all! They don’t give you any pain medication, and let me tell you: This was soooooo painful. Probably more painful than childbirth.”

Today, Kim Kardashian can put all that behind her, as she holds her infant son in her arms. Posting on her website, Kim and her husband welcome the newest Kardashian addition and state that both “mother and son are doing well.” Keeping Up with the Kardashians fans will very likely have many opportunities to look upon this fresh Kardashian face in the future.

While Kim Kardashian has endured two difficult pregnancies to bring forth healthy children, Kim is not prepared to stop there but is already looking forward to the next addition to the Kardashian-West household.
