‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Drama Unfolds, Onscreen And Off

Grey’s Anatomy is in its 12th season, and the mid-season finale aired on Thursday night. Twitter immediately lit up with activity.

Fans were left with numerous cliffhangers that they will have to wait until the New Year to see resolved.

[Warning: Spoiler Alert!]

The last episode of mid-season Grey’s Anatomy was called, “Things We Lost In The Fire.” Catch the promo trailer here.

According to Realty Today, in the episode, Maggie (Kelly McCreary) and Andrew (Giacomo Gianiotti) hooked up once again.

This new relationship between Maggie and Andrew will be explored in the second half of Grey’s Anatomy Season 12, but there will also be a focus on the feud between Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Nathan (Martin Henderson). McKidd was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly earlier in December, and he said the feud is a matter of life and death.

“All I’ll say is it’s life and death. It’s a life and death thing.”

McKidd said that Nathan coming to work at the hospital is really difficult for Owen to deal with.

“It’s brought up a lot of stuff for Owen. It really triggers him. He’s not ready to talk about it, but something obviously dreadful and awful has happened between he and Riggs. We will find that out. I can’t tell you what that is, because that would spoil it. But it really triggers a lot of that dark[ness].”

McKidd also reveals that the feud between Owen and Nathan will cause damage in Owen’s relationship with Amelia.

“Obviously it does some damage to him and Amelia, because she wants to help and he slams the door in her face essentially. He’s not being rational, he’s not really in his right mind. When he calms down, he and Amelia will reconnect.”

Christian Today reports that Nathan met Owen’s mother in the hospital, and it was clear he had been close to Owen’s family at some point in his past — close enough to call Owen’s mom “Ma.” There is also a possible divorce in the future, between April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams).

But for one former member of the Grey’s Anatomy cast, the drama on the show has followed him into real life. Patrick Dempsey, who played Dereck Shepherd, is facing a divorce from his wife, Jillian Fink.

A source told Radar Online that Fink has said she will call off the divorce on one condition — that Dempsey makes her his number one priority.

“He’s desperately trying to strike a compromise, but Jill is putting her foot down and at this point she says the only way she’ll stick around is if he puts her first.”

Fink filed for divorce after being married to Dempsey for 15 years because she was tired of his obsession with racing. The source told Radar Online that Dempsey’s obsession with racing damaged Fink and the relationship.

“She’s scarred by the damage that was caused when he went away to racing conventions and competitions for weeks and sometimes even months on end.”

There does seem to be a lot of drama associated with Grey’s Anatomy. Hopefully, the rest of the cast, past and present, don’t have that much drama in their own lives. The first episode of the mid-season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy will air on February 11, 2016, and is set to be directed by the great Denzel Washington. What a coup for Grey’s Anatomy! Fans will be eager for the series to restart after the holidays.
