Is ‘General Hospital’ Getting Axed? Not According To Nathan Varni, Says Not To Believe Fabricated Stories

When rumors spread that General Hospital may be getting cancelled by ABC, fans were scratching their heads wondering if this was really true. Well, Nathan Varni seems to have set the record straight and put those rumors to rest. According to the network’s executive, the daytime drama is just fine. In fact, he says not to believe everything you read.

Just a few days ago, a story came out that said that General Hospital was in danger of getting the axe. It is the last ABC soap that has been able to survive. The internet has been all abuzz about whether it will stick around ever since All My Children and One Life To Live were taken off air.

Toronto 24 Hours had reported on November 30 that GH may not be on air much longer, that is unless executive producer Frank Valentini can make some improvements. Their “insiders” told them that he has six months to improve the ratings or he is going to be fired, and that could possibly be the nail in the coffin for General Hospital. However, this doesn’t seem to be true at all.

When a fan expressed concern on the soap being cancelled on Varni’s own Facebook page, he quickly answered. Nathan made sure that everyone knew the truth.

“All those rumors are totally FALSE, stop reading bloggers who make stories up about the show, thank you!”

The General Hospital viewer told him that she read the article from the other day talking about the supposed ultimatum given to Valentini. It was obvious that Varni must have also read that blog as well.

“YES that’s what i’m talking about, that was from a non legit news source and completely fabricated, please don’t believe these random sites, thank you!”

He then told fans that they should go spread the word that this article is a fake and not to believe what was written about an apparent cancellation or that Frank Valentini is in trouble with ABC. He has nothing but high praises for the executive producer.

So, everything seems to be fine for now and General Hospital is thriving, despite the huge loss for the daytime drama. Longtime GH actor Jason Thompson has decided to leave his role as Dr. Patrick Drake, a role he has played for a decade now. He has turned his character from a hunky playboy into a wonderful husband and a devoted father of a sweet daughter on the show.

The Inquisitr has just reported that Thompson will instead be heading to The Young and the Restless soon to take over the role of Billy Abbott. This will be a big change for the actor and many GH fans will miss him. There is no word yet on whether Patrick will be recast or if the character will leave Port Charles completely.

While it may seem that the soap may be in trouble after losing a great lead actor such as Jason Thompson, General Hospital has definitely survived another longtime actor leaving. Steve Burton left his role as Jason Morgan, also heading to Young and the Restless, and Billy Miller took over. That has turned out just great and fans have grown to love him as Jason.

There are many exciting things coming up on General Hospital to look forward to. Coming up on December 21, they will start airing the Nutcracker Gala to benefit Toys for Tots, as reported by Soaps She Knows. Singer India Arie is expected to make an appearance performing for this event. This will be a fun time for the GH crew, and also for fans taking part in a wonderful cause.

In addition, there is also the Elizabeth/Jason/Sam storyline coming up and figuring out who is the father of Sabrina’s baby. There is always something to look forward to on this remaining ABC soap.
