‘Batman vs Superman’ New Trailer Debuts On ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ [Video]

Last week rolled out the newest trailer for Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, and this week, during Wednesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, DC shared the debut of the newest full-length trailer Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Both show two favorite heroes going head to head in a major battle.

This is the first real glimpse we’ve had of Ben Affleck playing Batman. It was announced that Affleck would take over the role after Christian Bale stepped down. The trailer shows a different face as Bruce Wayne, but he’s still got the same, slow-talking gravelly voice and swagger of the stuck-up millionaire-turned-vigilante.

From the very beginning of the three-minute trailer, there’s tangible tension between Clark Kent, played by Henry Cavill, and Bruce Wayne. Later, we see this tension turn into an all-out brawl as the two heroes fight to define the word “justice.”

At one point, the trailer shows Batman struggling to get up after being thrown to the ground by Superman, at which point Superman yells, “Stay down. If I wanted it, you’d be dead already.”

As Lex Luthor puts it in the trailer, “It’s the greatest gladiator battle in the history of the world. Son of Krypton vs. bat of Gotham.”

This trailer also shows the debut of Alexander Joseph Luthor Jr., Lex Luthor’s son, played by Jesse Eisenberg. Although he’s portraying the iconic villain’s son, the same eccentric insanity is still very evident, particularly during a scene with Lois Lane (Amy Adams) in which Lane calls him “psychotic.”

He responds, unfazed, “That’s a three syllable word for any thought too big for little minds.”

Eventually, the two superheroes seem to be fighting on the same team, which alludes to the fact that Luthor is the real villain pitting the two heroes against each other. At one point in the battle where they seem to be fighting together, we see a glimpse of Wonder Woman, who will be played by Gal Gadot (Fast and Furious).

Also, we finally have confirmation that Doomsday will be in the film. He made an appearance around the same time as Wonder Woman in the trailer. For those not familiar with every facet of the DC world, Doomsday is infamous as the monster that (spoiler alert) eventually kills Superman in the comic book Death of Superman.

According to the trailer, the monster is troll-like in appearance and has laser beams that come from his eyes. It looks like the Man of Steel isn’t the only one with powers like that, and it just might be time for DC fans to show some concern for the Kryptonian hero.

The Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer was perhaps not quite as anticipated or warmly welcomed as the Captain America: Civil War trailer, but it was still a big hit. Eleven hours after it was posted to YouTube, it already had more than a million views.

The debut trailer was, of course, featured on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and Ben Affleck was in attendance. After the showing of the trailer, the lights went out, the bat signal shown on the roof of the studio, and Affleck suddenly appeared in the audience.

“I’m here,” Affleck told a laughing and awed crowd, bag of chips in hand. “I’ve been here for, like, 20 minutes.”

This is just one of the many discussions that have brought hype to the upcoming film. Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to hit theaters in March of 2016.
