Syed Rizwan Farook Facebook Photo: San Bernardino Shooting Suspect ID’d, 2nd Man Possibly Farook’s Brother

Syed Farook is the name of one of the San Bernardino shooting suspects, reports NBC News. The publication reports that Syed and a man believed to be Farook’s brother are the two males involved in the tragic shooting. Along with Syed and Farook’s brother was a woman — but her name hasn’t been released at this time. The Daily Beast has published a photo of the man they say is Syed, from his Facebook photo. (Update: That Facebook photo is now gone, and the Daily Beast has apologized for fingering the wrong Farook’s Facebook page. However, Heavy has a photo of a man they say is the correct Syed.)

Update: The Daily Beast has now corrected their article, saying Syed Rizwan Farook was one of the shooting suspects — not Syed Raheel Farook.

According to the Daily Beast, Syed also went by “Raheel Farook,” as seen on LinkedIn and Farook’s Facebook page, with plenty of photos of Syed.

According to the New York Daily News, Syed was very much into his faith, with Farook leaving work to pray and returning.

“He was very religious. He would go to work, come back, go to pray, come back. He’s Muslim.”

Plenty of online websites list Syed Farook as an employee of San Bernardino County. There’s a “Farook, Syed R” listed as an Environmental Health Spec I on Transparent California. It is unknown if this is the same Farook ID’d as the San Bernardino shooter, but the 2013 salary listed shows a total salary with benefits and gross pay at more than $70,000 for that year, including overtime pay. Similar information is found for the Environmental Health Specialist on a California Salary Database site for Farook, except the benefits amount isn’t included.

Regular pay: $51,746.66
Overtime pay: $430.91
Other pay: $600.00
Total pay: $52,777.57

There are several people named Syed with the last name Farook on Been Verified, listing various ages and locales, with some of those locations representing the fact that Syed lived in cities in California.

There is also a “Syed R. Farook” listed with the San Bernardino County state employees website with the 2012 salary comparable to the 2013 salary, with a bump up in total pay that hit nearly $60,000 for the year of 2012 in comparison to 2013’s total income. On the same site, a “Syed R. As expected on social media, the origin of the name Syed and the ethnic-sounding Farook surname is causing a wide amount of comments on Twitter about the suspect’s reported name. As a result, multiple reports about Farook potentially shooting at a holiday party in a California conference room in the Inland Regional Center, as reported by NBC News, has caused confusion. The unresolved situation has various reports saying Syed might have initially arrived at the gathering and got into some sort of altercation. Other reports say Farook came prepared and dressed for battle, so these details seem to be conflicting.

As reported by Heavy, Syed may have indeed attended the holiday party, but Farook reportedly left angrily and returned later.

Syed might have left the party, reports the New York Times, with witnesses saying Farook likely returned with Syed’s face covered — and the other gunman’s face covered, potentially Farook’s brother. The voice of Syed, however, sounded like Farook, said the witness.

“Investigators believe there were three gunmen and one of them had worked at the facility and recently had a dispute with fellow employees, according to law enforcement officials. A witness has told police that although the gunmen had their faces covered, one of them sounded and appeared very similar to an employee who had left the facility earlier in the day.”

The media is currently waffling over calling the military-style shooting with long guns and AR15s or AK-47 guns and IEDs and explosives a workplace violence event or a terrorism event. The shooting rampage took the lives of at least 14 people on Wednesday, December 2. What’s unusual is that a woman purportedly joined the Farook brothers in the shooting incident.
