‘Arrow’/’The Flash’ Crossover — EP Teases ‘Challenges’ For Olicity, Plus Is Oliver’s Son Dead In The Flash Forward?

With the second crossover episode between Arrow and The Flash set to air Wednesday night, many fans are still wondering what is in store for Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Felicity’s (Emily Bett Rickards) complicated relationship. Although the first crossover focused on the fight between Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) and Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee), the second installment is set to feature a few surprising developments on the Olicity front.

With that in mind, executive producer Greg Berlanti recently sat down with TV Line and promised fans that the upcoming crossover would relate “probably the biggest emotional story we’ve ever done on Arrow.” Does this mean we’ll finally learn who Oliver was seen mourning over during the flash forward?

Unfortunately, Berlanti did not reveal the details on what will be revealed in the coming episode. However, he did say that the revelation was “very akin” to what happened during the crossover last year. As fans may recall, the last crossover installment featured Oliver running into a past romantic interest at Jitters.

Although the character has not been named yet, she is played by Anna Hopkins, who is known for her role on Defiance. At this point, Oliver still doesn’t know that his old girlfriend is also the mother of his son, whom she has been watching over since their break up.

With that in mind, it is possible that Oliver may be introduced to his son in the coming episode? At this point, it is hard to tell if this will happen or not, but if it does, it will certainly make Oliver’s relationship with Felicity even more complicated.

Additionally, is it possible that Oliver’s son is the person he is mourning during the flash forward? While fans will have to wait and see if the crossover confirms this to be true, Berlanti added that Oliver and Felicity’s relationship will face some significant challenges as the series heads into its winter break.

“What’s been really exciting about the show this year has been dramatizing their relationship, and how that’s informed his journey and her journey,” Berlanti explained in the interview. “Like any relationship, there’s going to be ups and downs and surprises and pitfalls, and they have some real challenges going into the break. but that’s probably all I should say without getting in trouble with my cohorts!”

Meanwhile, aside from the challenges that Oliver and Felicity will face in the coming episode, the crossover will also introduce a number of characters that will lead to the premiere of Legends of Tomorrow. This has already come to fruition with the introduction of Hawkgirl and Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) in the first crossover episode.

According to Tech Times, the Flash crossover revealed that the villain Vandal Savage is seeking out Hawkgirl and Hawkman in order to kill them. Apparently, this is an ongoing cycle in which Savage kills the pair — who are then reincarnated — absorbs their power, and then seeks them out all over again.

In regards to transitioning into the new spin-off series, Renee recently shared some thoughts on her characters transformation with Nerd Reactor.

“Having wings come out of your back I think is a pretty traumatic experience,” she stated. “At first she doesn’t remember him, so he’s clearly remembering all of our past lives and relationship, and I’m like, ‘You’re a psycho. Who are you?’ A lot of this is Hawkgirl’s origin and he’s helping her find the warrior, figure her past life.”

The next episode of Arrow is set to air December 2 on The CW, while the network’s newest series, Legends of Tomorrow, will hit televisions in January of 2016.
