‘Batman V Superman’ Trailer 3 Shows A Possible Knightmare Batman Vs Bizarro Faceoff

Batman v Superman trailer 3 premiered last night during Gotham. The trailer left viewers with even more questions about next year’s movie. Batman v Superman trailer 3 shows a possibly insane Superman confronting a bound up Batman, leaving speculators salivating for the full trailer.

The full trailer is scheduled to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live on December 2. That’s one day from now, but the speculations on the plot haven’t ceased. What exactly does Superman plan to do with an unmasked Batman?

Both Superman and Batman resemble instances of themselves which comic book readers may have seen previously. The trench coat look was revealed during Comic-Con earlier this year, but there was also a toy on display recalling the look Knightmare Batman. It’s different from the metallic suit worn by Ben Affleck during the earliest of trailers, hinting that Bruce Wayne will take multiple approaches to defeat Kal-El.

Director Zack Snyder told Comic Book Resources what his vision for this version of Batman will be.

“I had a really strong idea about what I wanted to do — I really wanted to do sort of a fabric-based Batman; not what’s become the more normal, armored Batman. That’s how we evolved it.”

A trench coat-wearing Batman is certainly closer to that ideal. It doesn’t reflect the shiny black Batsuits that have been in fashion since the days Michael Keaton played the role. But having this version of attire in the trailer doesn’t indicate how long Batman is going to wear it. Knightmare Batman certainly reflects Zack Snyder’s unique vision for the character. Even the standard Batsuit underneath the long coat in trailer 3 is looking very cloth-like.

Snyder also told Comic Book Resources that he draws inspiration from the popular comic book series Dark Knight Returns, which featured Frank Miller’s version of the character.

“There are so many great artists who have drawn Batman. So many great comics that have been created — it’s countless. I was talking to Frank about it: Dark Knight Returns was such a big influence on me, that I wanted to to honor him through imagery in the movie. You could still make Dark Knight Returns into a movie, if you want. That’s what I’m saying, as far as how much we used and how much we didn’t use. The visual elements, there are some that I homage, but I don’t think the movie [is an adaptation].”

On the other hand, Krypton’s son doesn’t look much different. His suit is revamped but still conventional. But as Movie Pilot reports, his behavior resembles the comic book Superman clone, Bizarro. The viciousness with which he attacks Batman and others in earlier footage, along with the guards seen bowing to him here, resemble Bizarro-like qualities. Bizarro is a white-skinned, low IQ menace who created a twisted, upside-down world full of clones like himself in the comics. Just like Bizarro, the people in Bizarro World think and act opposite to those in this world. In some incarnations, Bizarro is an uncontrollable, flawed Superman clone created by Lex Luthor.

The only thing missing is the white skin and rocky blocky appearance. It’s already known Lex Luthor appears in the movie and allies with Superman at some point, judging by trailer 2. For comic fans, having Bizzaro there as the reason for Superman’s behavior would make the story and plot decipherable. In that case, it wouldn’t be that Superman is acting out of character or has turned evil — it would mean that it wasn’t really Superman.

Next year will see two of the greatest known superheroes battle it out on screen. Batman v Superman trailer 3 brings things closer but is still vague enough to leave numerous questions.
