‘Duck Feet’ Nails Are The Newest Trend In 2015, Coming Back From 2012

There have been plenty of wild nail trends introduced or popularized in 2015. Those included bubble nails, hump nails, stiletto nails and aquarium nails, as reported by the Inquisitr.

Next up, marble nails made a big splash, with fashion forward thinking nail divas using nail polish and water to create a marbleized look to their nail designs.

Now in the area of nail trends come duck feet nails, which enjoy more than 6,000 posts on Instagram. Similar to bubble nails, duck feet nails focus on creating a unique shape to the nails, instead of merely unique designs.

According to the Times of India, duck feet nails are a new trend that got its name because the nail designs are shaped just like webbed duck feet. Instead of originating in 2015, the duck feet nails trend actually began in 2012, but didn’t catch on fire. That’s because the duck feet nails made it difficult for those who wore the nails to take rings on and off.

For whatever reasons, despite those problems, the duck feet nails have made a resurgence in 2015. In order to create the duck feet nails look, creators use artificial nails, and the tips are a lot wider than the acrylic nails that are placed on the wearer’s actual nail bed. The extreme slant of the duck feet nails can be subtle or really wide, and can appear pretty sharp and dangerous.

On YouTube, there are plenty of tutorials that show step-by-step instructions on creating the duck nails look. Some of those instructional videos are from two or three years ago, proving the trend first emerged in 2012 and is now making a comeback.

On the spittyjsquirrel Instagram account, the user joked about her duck feet nails being so strong and big that she could potentially climb a tree with the nails.

“Could I climb a tree with these?”

Also called flair nails, a hashtag that enjoys more than 7,000 posts on Instagram, the duck feet nails are garnering some criticisms from folks who don’t understand the craze.

The duck nails have been used with all sorts of accouterments, like crystals and other decorations. Some design their duck nails to go with the holidays, such as the Christmas-themed duck nails seen here in another Instagram photo.

Like most nails trends, the duck feet nails trend is one in a string of nail trends that seem to seek out new and interesting ways to decorate nails. Those who believe in natural nail healthcare likely won’t jump on the duck feet nail trend bandwagon, because the duck feet nails require acrylic nails, adhesives and those items in order to make nail tips that extend wider than a person’s real nails.

Certain Instagram posts about the duck feet nails trend, such as a photo posted by iamnailzbymari, agreed with the fact that while nail technicians try to accommodate all styles, some trends — like duck feet nails — are just too out of the box.

“As a nail tech, you can’t hate any style of nails. Everything expresses creativity. Except ‘duck feet.’ They should be illegal!”

“Omg so true!… I’m not a fan of duck feet nails yuk!… #notafan#duckfeetnails

Others are full-fledged fans of duck feet nails, and a walk through Twitter after a search for “duck nails” turns up photos of those who wear their duck nails just because they draw so much attention.

Viewing plenty of variations of the duck nails photos show that some folks who undertake the trend choose to make their duck nails really wide – while other images display nails that appear to be rounded like standard nails.
