Robert Downey Jr. Talks Marvel And ‘Captain America: Civil War’

Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans released the highly anticipated Captain America: Civil War trailer this week during their appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and the rumor mills are running full tilt with speculation.

Evans and Downey apparently had very different experiences during the filming of Civil War, with Evans sweating it out in the Hotlanta heat and Downey relaxing in the cool air conditioned studio.

Evans admitted filming in the brutal heat of Atlanta, which he dubbed Hotlanta, was one of the biggest challenges he faced; apparently Captain America’s skin-tight action suit made the star incredibly sweaty.

Downey, however, had no such problems, as many of his action sequences were filmed back in the studio. RDJ did have Disney fly out all the furniture in his house and set it up in Atlanta, however, to make life easier on his kids and yes his cats, according to New Zealand Herald.

I was either in a lovely sprawling rented home or an air-conditioned helicopter. I mean I did see you on the tarmac doing action for six months but you see once the helmet (of my Iron Man costume) closes, I’m not there. You should have thought of that.

The latest installment of Marvel’s Avenger movie series picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, with Captain America, Steve Rogers, leading the new team of superheroes.

All is not well, however, as Avenger is pitted against Avenger amid a government plot to install a superhero registration act and a governing body to manage the heroes. Although plot details remain scarce, the trailer appears to hint at divisions in the superhero team over the registration act.

With damage caused by the Avengers continuing to mount, the public is growing increasingly concerned at the power and devastation caused by the superheroes.

The trailer shows a document labeled The Sokovia Accords being handed over from the Hulk’s greatest foe, General Ross, to an unknown superhero. Sokovia is the country Ultron levitated when he tried to destroy the world in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

That’s what leads the Avenger heroes to fight their own Civil War as Iron Man and friends square off against Captain America and compatriots.

Fans also get their first glimpse of Black Panther during the two minute trailer released earlier this wee, but we’re still not sure which side he’s on. Meanwhile, General Ross is leading the charge to leash the Avengers with the government registration act and War Machine gets cut to shreds in a scene that might mean his death.

With Avenger divided against Avenger, the trailer seems to show Falcon, Scarlet Witch, and Hawkeye siding with Captain America while Black Widow and War Machine join Tony Stark.

Captain America: Civil War is scheduled to open in theaters May 6, 2016.

Negotiations continue between Robert Downey and Marvel.

Negotiations

Although Downey has not promised to reprise his role of Tony Stark in Iron Man 4, negotiations between Hollywood’s highest paid actor and Marvel are still going on. No news yet on when filming on Iron Man 4 might begin.

Some rumors have Downey asking for an additional $100 million while others say it’s $50 million and still others have RDJ asking for a portion of the profits.

Earlier rumors had the Tony Stark/Iron Man role being played by a younger actor, Ty Simpkins, who played the young boy Harley Keener in Iron Man 3.
