WWE News: WWE Said To Have Big Plans For New WWE NXT Talent La Sombra

WWE recently made some interesting signings as well as put feelers out for some other talent. They, of course, signed great Independent workers Rich Swann and Biff Busick. After that, they added La Sombra, which was a huge addition to the WWE NXT roster. Due to his huge Hispanic appeal, WWE is excited to have him. WWE just signed Alberto Del Rio back on about a month ago. Del Rio was hired mostly due to WWE needing a Hispanic star present with the company.

Due to him being established, WWE felt Del Rio would be good for ratings as well as tours. They reportedly paid him quite a sum to come back. Meanwhile La Sombra was brought in to be the future for WWE’s Hispanic audience. La Sombra is a great in-ring worker and already knows relatively good English. Sara Stock, who was Sarita in TNA, is currently working at the WWE Performance Center and will be working with him on his English.

Clearly La Sombra signing with WWE left many unable to have him a bit upset. CMLL and NJPW both were not happy about him heading to WWE, so much so that the owner of NJPW called La Sombra’s signing with WWE a “massive shame.” The reason for this is that the 26-year-old La Sombra was beloved by the owners and operators of the places he worked on the regular for.

Sombra not only brings Mexican fans with him to WWE, but Japanese fans as well. He’s a global star who WWE has wanted to sign for some time now. They ran into a similar issue when trying to sign Alberto Del Rio years ago, with both sides reportedly flirting on the opportunity for about a year and half before he finally signed on.

While he normally works under a mask when wrestling, it appears La Sombra will be working without it as of now. The idea is that WWE can market him well with or without the mask, but without it has worked quite well for Del Rio whom he resembles a lot. That said, Del Rio was never the star Rey Mysterio was for WWE. However, WWE feels Kalisto might have what it takes to handle things in the masked luchador department while Sombra can take over with the simple Hispanic talent idea.

This means he will be given an interesting character to portray. WWE doesn’t want to screw up with him, and we can expect him to be used well and in a big position quite often with the company. According to The Wrestling Observer, WWE feels that La Sombra can be a star for them. They are very high on what he can do for their audience due to his global appeal, but especially the Hispanic fans, a group they really like to cater to.

Word is that La Sombra is very professional, which WWE absolutely loves. He also takes a lot of pride in his work and will be unlikely to rub people the wrong way backstage, which is quite important in the WWE these days. A simple non-handshake didn’t get two great workers a job once. Fans wonder where those young bucks went after that.

His in-ring work is something that WWE loved from the beginning, as they recruited him simply based on that originally as well as his heritage. However, the ability to perform was the big thing for WWE, as they have recruited some who did not fit well with WWE’s style. Due to his work with Japan, Sombra has worked with people that have helped him adjust well.

WWE feels that the fact that he speaks English relatively well is also a plus. While he is still learning more, he is already ahead of many who have come in without any knowledge of the language. So with La Sombra having already grasped basics is a good thing. WWE feels that La Sombra will be the big Hispanic star for the next 10 years, as long as he can stay healthy. Interestingly enough, WWE paid Del Rio well to come in during his late 30s, so Sombra may have a job with WWE for a very long time if he wants it.
