‘The Flash’ And ‘Supergirl’ Crossover: Shocking New Details And How It May Happen

Crossovers are something that just about anyone and everyone wants when it comes to their favorite television shows. When it comes to the world of comic book TV shows, that makes things even more exciting. Lately, there has been a lot of talk about a crossover between The Flash and Supergirl, and while some say it won’t possibly happen, there are new details coming out about this so-called impossibility.

Months ago, before Supergirl even started, there was a Variety photoshoot which had Melissa Benoist of Supergirl and Grant Gustin of The Flash together. Many thought this meant that they would be appearing together, but it was nothing more than a photoshoot.

Some have said that Supergirl being on CBS and The Flash being on the CW meant that they couldn’t possibly have a crossover, but that may not be as far-fetched now.

According to Comic Book Movie, plans are starting to be put in place for a crossover show between the two TV series, and have the episode air in May. Supergirl was originally picked up for just 13 episodes, but the option is there for CBS to have nine more, for a full season of 22.

They realize that their superheroine series may need a bit of a ratings boost, so bringing Barry Allen over wouldn’t hurt. It’s obvious that the incredibly popular Flash joining forces with Supergirl would bring in a huge ratings jump and get talk going.

Not just that, but CBS apparently is making an ultimatum that the crossover is actually a requirement to get those “back nine” episodes.

Now, the big question is: what would the crossover be about? Well, Bleeding Cool found out some new details on that and it leads to a rather intriguing storyline for the two young heroes.

“… part of an arc that takes on the storyline from the Supergirl comics about New Krypton – that comic saw 100,000 Kryptonians come to Earth after Brainiac freed them from the Bottle City of Kandor, with a new planet being built for them. It also mirrors a plotline currently running in ‘Dark Knight III: The Master Race.’ But how much of that could be done on a TV budget means we may get a very different way of telling that story.”

That actually sounds really cool, and the name-drop of “Dark Knight” means a lot too, but don’t get too excited about a Batman appearance just yet. Still, how does Flash end up coming into the picture here and showing up on Supergirl?

The Flash supergirl crossover

Anyone who has watched Season 2 of The Flash at all knows that there are now alternate Earths, which bring about different characters. Some are good and some are bad, and some are still not known about as of yet.

There is already a huge crossover set for this upcoming week, which will see Arrow and The Flash cross paths, and also jump-start Legends of Tomorrow. Many have thought that the alternate Earths would end up bringing another Kryptonian to Central City in Tom Welling’s Superman from Smallville.

That rumor isn’t totally out of the question, but the crossover between Supergirl and The Flash actually seems more feasible at this time. Yes, CBS had no plans of having Kara cross with The CW before, but knowing that NBC’s recently-cancelled Constantine showed up means that anyone really can.

It’s an exciting time to be a fan, but those last nine episodes of Supergirl really need to be picked up by CBS for this crossover with The Flash to have any chance of happening. May’s sweeps could really see a lot of action if Kara ends up in STAR Labs, but it’s looking like a real possibility.
