Mississippi Man Accused Of Killing Waitress Who Asked Him Not To Smoke

A Mississippi man has been arrested after allegedly killing a Waffle House waitress on Friday morning. Raw Story reports that 45-year-old Johnny Mount allegedly took things way too far when he was asked not to smoke inside the popular greasy spoon franchise.

The incident reportedly took place at around 1 a.m. in the early morning hours of Friday. Mount was eating at the Waffle House restaurant in Biloxi, when he decided to light up a cigarette while seated. WLOX News reported the unidentified waitress asked him to put out his cigarette, and not to smoke inside the restaurant. This reportedly infuriated 45-year-old Johnny Max Mount. The Mississippi man began arguing with the 52-year-old waitress, but things escalated quickly.

Johnny Mount is accused of pulling out a loaded handgun and firing it, hitting the waitress one time in the head. The gun, which was concealed under his shirt, was a 9 mm pistol. She was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, but later succumbed to her injuries. The Mississippi man was reportedly arrested and charged with first-degree murder, a charge which can carry the death penalty in the southern state.

This fatal shooting has also sparked interest on social media, with people making varied comments about “responsible gun owners.” Numerous people are also expressing horror that such a violent incident could take place while also discussing whether or not someone should be allowed to smoke in a restaurant.

This isn’t the only time in recent news that a shooting has taken place at a Waffle House restaurant. The Advocated reports that a 16-year-old has been arrested for accidentally shooting a woman at a Baton Rouge Waffle House. The teen was incredibly lucky that the victim of his alleged accident survived. However, at the time of the shooting, the woman (who hasn’t been identified) was rushed to emergency care with “life-threatening injuries.” She has stabilized in the care of hospital staff.

Earlier this year another fatal shooting took place at a Waffle House in South Carolina. The Post and Courier reports that the restaurant was being robbed when a customer opened fire on the alleged criminal. The man was fatally wounded as he was walking out of the eatery carrying the cash from the register. Also this year, a Florida man reportedly fired three shots at another man inside of a Waffle House, which ultimately killed the man. Authorities in Fort Myers have since deemed the shooting an incident of self defense.

In the case of the latest shooting in Mississippi, the man accused of killing the waitress is being held on bond in the amount of $2 Million. At this time it hasn’t been reported whether or not he has an attorney or if he’ll be able to post bond to be released from jail. Meanwhile, the accused shooter has been described as “friendly,” even though this latest incident makes him look anything but that.
