Baby Ripped From Mother’s Womb After Friend Stabbed Her Repeatedly, Murderer Tried To Claim Victim’s Child As Her Own

In a bizarre and deadly tale, one Bronx woman attacked and stabbed her pregnant friend multiple times before slicing open her stomach and ripping her baby out. The woman then adamantly claimed to police officers that she was the one who had just given birth to the baby girl.

Friday afternoon police found a mutilated nine months pregnant Angelikque Sutton in the apartment of her friend, bleeding profusely on the floor. When the authorities arrived they reportedly found Ashleigh Wade on the stoop of her apartment with blood still dripping from her fingers. Officers reported that the attacker said she stabbed her victim “as many times as she could.” Sutton was barely alive. She had been stabbed numerous times in her neck and belly and sported a deep gash across her once pregnant stomach. Sutton’s placenta and umbilical cord were strewn across the bathroom floor but Wade claimed the baby at the scene was hers and she was the one who had just given birth.

Called to the scene by Wade’s boyfriend, the police arrived at the grisly scene about 2:20 pm on Friday and had to immediately rush the mother and baby girl to Montefiore Medical Center. The boyfriend was holding the baby bundled up in a jacket when the police arrived. New York Daily News reported that Angelikque Sutton succumbed to the stabbing at the hospital and was pronounced dead a little after 3:30 p.m. The baby girl that was ripped from her mother’s womb, weighing 8 pounds, 2 ounces was named Genesis and has a police guard at a Bronx hospital. Her father – Patrick Bradley – is thankful she’s alive but mourns his fiancée’s murder. The couple had been together eight years with plans to marry Friday.

After initially claiming that the newborn belonged to her, Ashleigh Wade soon changed her tune and claimed stabbing her 8 1/2 months pregnant friend was self-defense. Wade told the authorities that, while in her apartment with Angelikque, the pregnant woman lunged at her with a knife and after wrestling it away she stabbed the deceased in the neck and the only reason why she ripped open her stomach and took the baby out was to save her. Wade said she did not want the baby to die too and cutting her out of her mother’s womb was the only way. It was a miracle little Genesis survived with all the stab wounds her mother received.

A deeper look into 22-year-old Wade’s life showed that the woman was baby-obsessed and very unhinged. Her boyfriend, Angel Praylow, 27, says she had told him she was pregnant, and for months she has been on Facebook giving updates on her pregnancy, even posting sonogram pictures and registering for gifts at Babies “R” Us. She was registered for over 47 items and claimed to be due on November 16. When the due date came and went, family members were told “she not ready to come out yet.” Wade refused a medical exam to determine if she was pregnant but The New York Post reported that authorities are trying to get a search warrant to test if Wade was ever even pregnant. Family members say that it is not the first time she has claimed pregnancy, though. In 2014, she told them she had lost a baby but refused to give any further details.

Retired NYPD detective lieutenant commander says this is a classic case of fetal kidnapping, which is a crime he has researched extensively. He advised the Post that Wade’s efforts to convince everyone she was pregnant mimics every instance of the brutal crime that he has ever encountered. The United States has had 17 cases of fetal kidnapping since 1987.

Neighbors who knew the deceased and her murderer say they are shocked. Angelikque Sutton and Ashleigh Wade were eight grade friends who had lost contact with each other and recently reunited through Facebook. A vigil was held for Angelikque Sutton last night.

Wade, was transferred from Jacobi Medical Center to Elmhurst Center Hospital on Saturday and was undergoing psychiatric evaluation. Ashleigh Wade has been arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon, manslaughter and murder.
