Awesome Kong Retirement A Mystery

The Awesome Kong retirement story has grown to become a mystery, as WrestleZone is reporting that the former WWE diva is not retiring after all.

Earlier in the week, word spread through the Internet wrestling community that Awesome Kong was retiring from professional wrestling. We now know that the source of the information stemed from a letter written in Japanese that was posted online. The general consensus is that something was lost in translation, as the person who initially reported the news is not extremely fluent in the language.

The original report stated that Awesome Kong, whose real name is Kia Stevens, informed her Japanese fans that she would no longer be working as an in-ring performer. She also allegedly stated that she was going to be canceling her scheduled appearance at the Korakuen Hall on November 25. Awesome Kong reportedly told the fans that she did not want to perform if she could not do so at a level that is acceptable to her standards.

Conflicting reports are now stating that Awesome Kong is simply doing an overseas retirement. Though doctors are concerned about her back issues, the woman formerly known as Kharma in WWE will still be accepting independent wrestling dates in the United States.

Anything Awesome Kong says needs to be taken with a grain of salt, as she has a bit of a reputation for being somewhat inaccurate. If nothing else, the California native or her representatives could potentially be the one sending out false information to the various people involved. It would explain why there is so much misinformation in this particular retirement story.

Back when Awesome Kong was working for WWE, she had a bizarre incident that ultimate led to the company making the decision to let her go from her contract. She took some time away from the ring by telling management that she was pregnant. When a baby was not produced, people began wondering. There are those who believe Awesome Kong was never actually pregnant to begin with.

To give you an idea of how bad her credibility and reputation was in WWE, the company was willing to let her go without getting much of a return on their investment. They were hoping that she would bring new life to the divas division by being a unique character who looked and acted very differently from her counterparts.

There is quite a bit of uncertainty when it comes to the future of Awesome Kong.

Some time toward the end of 2015, Awesome Kong will become a free agent as her contract with TNA is set to expire. The company is in a bit of a flux, so no one is sure what their plans are going to be for the next couple of months. There are reports that company president Dixie Carter could be looking to sign talent since Impact Wrestling has received a contract to start airing on POP TV at the beginning of 2016.

If TNA does not keep Awesome Kong around, we know that she stands very little chance of making a return to WWE. However, the 38-year-old can still make money in the industry by working various dates on the independent wrestling scene. She has enough name value thanks to her stints in WWE and TNA. She might even be allowed to return to Japan if she has not burned those bridges.

You just never know with Awesome Kong.
