Jill Duggar Dillard Mission Trip Update: Jill Feeds Spanish Teacher ‘Chicken Etti,’ Turns Language Class Into Bible Study

Jill Duggar Dillard and Derick Dillard have shared another mission trip update, but they don’t have a lot of news to share. The couple is still taking Spanish lessons in Guatemala, and it could take Jill Duggar quite some time to learn the language. According to the Jill & Jessa: Counting On star, she’s convinced her Spanish teacher to spend a large chunk of their time together studying the Bible instead of teaching Spanish class.

In a post on the Dillard Family website, Jill Duggar revealed that her Spanish teacher is already a religious woman who goes to church and prays, but Jill and Derick have inspired her to spend more time studying the Bible, and to being a more consistent churchgoer. Unfortunately for Jill, her teacher has decided that the best time to study the Bible is when she’s supposed to be teaching Jill Spanish.

“We were able to give her a Bible and she asked if she and I could study it together one hour a day in class,” Jill wrote.

Jill Duggar got her Spanish teacher more interested in the Bible by treating her to a viewing of the War Room movie and serving her a dish called “Chicken Etti.”

Jill’s only other major mission trip updates concern her seven-month-old son Israel and her husband’s mouth. She revealed that Israel has learned to clap, crawl, wave, and pull himself up into a standing position. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Jill recently shared a video of Israel crawling across a blanket. To entice him to move, she held a marker on the opposite side of the blanket, and rewarded his efforts by letting him chew on the writing instrument. Jill Duggar subtly hinted that she’s not using the controversial practice known as blanket training by letting her fans know that Israel is freely crawling around the house.

“He is about to cut his first two teeth, so recently he has been a little fussier than normal. He is usually happy though and loves exploring new areas in the house now that he can move.”

Israel isn’t the only one with mouth issues. As the Inquisitr previously reported, Derick Dillard had some major dental work done before he and Jill left on their mission trip — he got braces and had his palate expanded. Now Derick lives far away from the dentist who did the work, so he was probably a bit panicked when disaster struck — an orthodontic piece recently broke off. Luckily, Jill Duggar reports that she and her husband managed to find a dentist who could fix it.

In addition to looking for dentists, watching Israel grow, and studying the Bible with their Spanish teacher, Jill and Derick are busy handing out gospel tracts. Jill Duggar ended her mission trip update with a call for prayers. She wants her fans to pray for “Israel to feel better as his teeth work on popping through,” “wisdom in language and cultural immersion,” and “continued opportunities to share the gospel and receptive hearts.”

Some of Jill Duggar’s critics might be less than impressed with her latest mission trip update. As ETonline reported, Jill and her husband created a tax-exempt organization so that they could ask fans for donations to fund their mission trip. They’ve already been criticized for using part of this money to take Spanish classes in Guatemala when they could have done so back in the States, and some critics think that the couple is treating their mission trip more like a vacation. Perhaps Jill is hoping that her anecdote about her Spanish teacher will convince her critics that taking language lessons in Guatemala has been worthwhile — she has turned her classes into an opportunity to evangelize, after all.

Duggar fans and critics alike will get a glimpse of Jill and Derick’s new life as missionaries during TLC’s upcoming Jill & Jessa: Counting On specials. TLC is producing three TV specials starring Jill and her younger sister, Jessa Duggar Seewald, and the first 90-minute special is set to premiere December 13 at 8:00 p.m. ET on TLC. The two following specials will air at 9:00 p.m. ET on December 20 and 27.

What do you think of Jill Duggar’s latest mission trip update? Does it sound like she and Derick Dillard making the best use of their time in Central America?
