Levi James Steere: Man Throws Chunk Of Concrete Through Car Window, Allegedly Fractures Baby’s Skull

A 6-month-old baby is in critical condition following an altercation that quickly went from bad to worse. According to the Orlando Sentinel, Levi James Steere has been accused of throwing a chunk of concrete into a car window and fracturing the baby’s skull.

The horrific incident, which took place on November 16, began when the baby’s mother, Michelle Kirkland, became embroiled in a heated argument with Steere over money. It has been reported that Kirkland arrived at Steere’s home to pay a debt, but things took a turn for the worse due to a payment discrepancy.

Steere reportedly told deputies with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office that he thought Kirkland was attempting to pay him with stolen credit cards. Due to the escalating argument, Steere stated that he’d asked Kirkland to leave. Although she complied with his request, her departure didn’t last long because she reportedly came right back with her boyfriend, Travis Nix.

When Kirkland and Nix arrived, Steere and Nix exchanged words and the argument escalated to a physical altercation. Nix allegedly threw a brick threw one of the windows at Steere’s home, causing approximately $100 in damage. Then he got back into his vehicle to drive off, but not before Steere retaliated by picking up rocks and chunks of concrete and throwing them at the couple’s car. When chunks of concrete were thrown into the window of the car, one peice went through the passenger window and struck the baby in the head.

The 6-month-old baby girl was rushed to Florida Hospital Waterman to be treated for a skull fracture. Her condition is classified as critical, according to Opposing Views. It has been reported that she’s been moved to Arnold Palmer Hospital to undergo surgery for the injury. On Tuesday, Nov. 17, Kirkland released a statement detailing the baby’s condition.

“We still don’t know what’s going to happen,” Kirkland said Tuesday. “She’s doing as well as she possibly could with a cracked skull. I just grabbed her and rushed her to the hospital as quickly as I could.”

According to WFLA, Steere has been arrested and charged for the child’s skull fracture. He is facing a number of charges including, two counts of throwing a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle and aggravated child abuse. Although Kirkland and Nix are not facing charges as of yet, Steere has stated that he plans to pursue them for the damages they caused to the window at his home. Lake County sheriff’s spokesman Lt. John Herrell has stated the investigation into the incident will be ongoing.

While many social media users have sympathized with the parents of the injured baby, some are wondering why Nix is not facing charges for the damage he caused to Steere’s home. Others have also argued that both parents should be charged with negligence since they put the child in harm’s way by returning to Steere’s home and inciting the altercation. If they had never returned, the child may not have been injured. Although the notion seems probable, it doesn’t seem like the parents will face any charges related to the baby’s injuries.

Do you think the baby’s parents should face charges as well? Should they be held accountable because they returned to Steere’s home with their baby present? Share your thoughts.
