Resident Evil: ‘RE2,’ ‘RE6’ Gets Revamp For Xbox One And PS4 — ‘RE7’ Released Soon? [Video]

Resident Evil gamers are happy that Resident Evil 6 is being remastered for Xbox One and PS4, but when will Resident Evil 7 be released? The game has been in production since last year, and a solid release date has yet to be given, however the creator of the game has hinted at a late 2015 release. That could mean some Resident Evil gamers would be very happy on Christmas morning! RE7 will be released for XBox One only.

Christian Today reported that Resident Evil 7 would supposedly have a simultaneous release alongside Halo 5. Christian Today also reported that three new characters will be introduced in RE7, one of them being Alice, who Resident Evil fans know, not from the game series, but from the movie franchise of the same name. It appears that RE7 will tie Alice’s character once and for all to the game series. The source also said that Capcom hoped to regain some of its former glory before RE6 came out, which left RE fans disappointed.

If you have never heard of Resident Evil, it is the first survival horror video game. When Resident Evil was released in 1996, the genre got its name, although RE was not the first game released in that genre, it just adopted the term. The original game centered on a group of elite Special Tactics and Rescue Squad (S.T.A.R.S.) Bravo Team members who were to sent to investigate the disappearance of the Alpha team. The first team was sent in amid a series of strange violent outbreaks in Raccoon City to see what was going on and lost contact with HQ. The members of Bravo team soon find out why Alpha disappeared, their helicopter is found crashed with no sign of Alpha except for the dead pilot. The group is then attacked by mutant Dobermans and most of them escape to an eerie mansion where they encounter zombies and other unsightly monsters. It seems that a greedy and corrupt corporation by the name of Umbrella had unleashed a virus that turned people to zombies. Thus began the survival horror game.

The first Resident Evil game was remastered and released in early 2015 for all platforms: Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and PC. That remaster was actually just a HD version of the original remastered game for the Nintendo GameCube which was released in 2002. Capcom is also releasing a remastered Resident Evil Zero in early 2016, according to IGN. RE0 was also released in 2002, the zero was added to the title because the game was actually a prequel to the original RE game. Resident Evil 2 is also being remastered, though its release date has not yet been revealed. Other games in the numbered series have not been confirmed as being remade yet, but its most likely that at least Resident Evil 3 will get a remake.

There are many more Resident Evil games than just seven. Other games have been released close to the same time or in between the release of the numbered games. The numbered games are more action-oriented and appeal to a wider fan base, which started with Resident Evil 5. Resident Evil 4 was sort of in the middle, offering both action and downright survivor horror action. Fans have been torn with the change of the franchise from survivor horror to more action but the spin-off games have more than filled the survival horror gap. The Darkside Chronicles and Revelations are some of the spin-off games in the franchise. True fans of the franchise love the more scarier versions, the survival horror that was introduced with the first Resident Evil game. Which is why fans are happy the original Resident Evil games are being remastered. Capcom made a wise decision.
