Gal Gadot Shares First ‘Wonder Woman’ Pic As Filming For The Standalone Movie Begins

Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot gave fans an early holiday gift by sharing a new pic of her character from the upcoming standalone movie on her Instagram and Twitter accounts. Filming is now officially underway with Patty Jenkins as director and stars Gadot, best known for her stint in the last two Fast & Furious films.

“Almost 75 years in the making… #WonderWoman is underway,” Gadot captioned the photo, in which she’s wearing a dark cloak with London’s Big Ben visible in the background.

After her introduction in DC comic books 75 years ago, Wonder Woman will first appear in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice this coming spring, and fans have been given a taste of the character in action in the official trailer.

Actors joining Gadot in the solo Wonder Woman film have also been announced in a press release from Warner Bros. The press release begins by announcing filming of the Wonder Woman feature film has begun.

“Principal photography is underway on Warner Bros. Pictures’ Wonder Woman feature film, the highly anticipated action adventure from director Patty Jenkins (“Monster,” AMC’s “The Killing”), starring Gal Gadot (the “Fast & Furious” movies) in the role of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. The character will make her big screen debut this spring in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” but the new film will mark her first time headlining a feature.”

The actors cast in the film include Chris Pine (the rebooted Star Trek films) as Captain Steve Trevor, Robin Wright (Netflix’s House of Cards), Danny Huston (Clash of the Titans; X-Men Origins: Wolverine), David Thewlis (the Harry Potter films; The Theory of Everything), Ewen Bremner (Exodus: Gods and Kings; Snowpiercer), Saïd Taghmaoui (American Hustle), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In), and Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead).

Besides Pine, who will play Captain Steve Trevor, the characters the other actors will be playing have not been announced yet.

Earlier this month it was reported that actress Nicole Kidman was in talks for a role in Wonder Woman; however a role for the actress doesn’t seem to have panned out as she was not named by Warner Bros. as one of the official cast members to appear in the movie.

The press release from Warner Bros. goes on to name the producers, executive producers, director of photography, production designer, costume designer and editor.

“Set to open in 2017, the Wonder Woman feature film is based on characters created by William Moulton Marston, appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment. It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.”

Collider speculates the film may have a more unique title since Warner Bros. called it “the Wonder Woman feature film” rather than just Wonder Woman.

Some reactions to the Wonder Woman pic have been surprising. USA Today along with a few other sources believe Gadot’s Wonder Woman pic looks similar to Natalie Portman’s Queen Amidala from the Star Wars prequels. Hitfix also reports Gadot’s Wonder Woman pic looks like a Jedi.

While plot details and timelines have still not been confirmed, it’s fair to say as the time grows closer to the release of the film more information will be released.

Hype for the Amazon princess began last summer when Batman V. Superman director Zack Snyder unveiled the costume.

Filming of Wonder Woman is set to take place in the U.K., Italy, and France and is slated to release in movie theaters June 23, 2017.
