Indiana University-Purdue University Shooting: Non-IUPUI Suspects Fled In Blue Pick-Up Truck

There was a shooting on Sunday, November 22, on the Indiana University-Purdue University campus, as reported by the Daily Mail. Initially, the Twitter account named IUPUI, ?@IUPUI, noted that a scary situation was brewing at the time of the shooting near the Rotary Building. The tweet urged students and everyone to stay away from the location at that time.

Eventually, the Facebook page, titled Indiana University Emergency Updates, gave more news about the shooting and the shooting suspects.

“Indiana University Police Department-IUPUI, with the assistance of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, is investigating a dispute that led to gunshots fired near the Rotary Building and Eskenazi Hospital Sunday around 11:38 a.m. Police say that during the dispute shots were fired but the victim was not struck.

“The victim was chased toward the hospital and robbed. The suspects were last seen leaving the area in a pick-up truck. Police say the victim and suspects knew each other. They were not affiliated with IUPUI.”

Although authorities reported that shots were indeed fired during the dispute, the intended shooting victim was not struck in the shooting. The shooting suspects knew their victim, but they weren’t associated with the Indiana University-Purdue University school system. The shooter or shooters were most recently seen leaving the area near the shooting after chasing the victim to the Eskenazi Hospital and robbing the victim.

The shooting suspects in the Indiana University-Purdue University situation fled the melee in a pick-up truck, even if not many more updates have been released on the shooter or shooters descriptions. Indiana University Emergency Updates offered additional comments that there was no threat to the campus as of the time of that update. Also, the Facebook page noted that it would be the final update, presumably about the shooting situation.

“There is no known threat to the campus community at this time. This is the final update.”

The emergency page of the Indiana University-Purdue University website has the embedded updates from the campus Facebook page, as well. The emergency website noted via the Facebook updates that the shooting incident at the time was dangerous to both “participants and bystanders.”

The shooting suspects were spotted traveling northbound from the area in a blue pickup truck, said the emergency update, which cautioned students and others to trust their instincts. The university added that people should take safe shelter, stay away from the area if they weren’t already near the campus shooting location, and to follow the instructions given by university officials or local police. From the first tweet about the shooting situation to the latest “final update,” sketchy details about what events were at the heart of the shooting abound.

The shooting near the campus on Sunday, November 22, isn’t the first time a scare happened at the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Campus in Indianapolis. On Tuesday, March 19, 2013, a female student contacted police about a man who had been spotted potentially carrying a long gun near or beneath his long brown coat. It was approximately 12:30 p.m. local time when the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police received the call about the man on the campus of the Indiana University-Purdue University nearby a nursing building.

Meanwhile, the IUPUI Twitter account responded to a question on Twitter, saying that it was safe to leave buildings if students are already on campus. One parent commented on Facebook that she appreciated all updates on the situation.

“As a parent who has a student at IUPUI, I appreciate the notification. Regardless if all the details are known or not. His safety and all of yours is what matters!!”
