WWE News: John Cena Says ‘I Have Nothing Left To Accomplish’

John Cena has been the name and face of the WWE brand for over a decade, and it appears that he’s slowly putting his legendary career into perspective.

In an interview with Zap2It.com, Cena talked about his career with the WWE, which began 13 years ago. Since his first match with Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle on SmackDown, the leader of the Cenation is now decorated in accolades, which include multiple reigns as WWE United States champion, WWE Tag Team champion, 15-time World champion, and a two-time winner of the Royal Rumble.

However, with that success, Cena admits that he’s aware of the audience growing “complacent” about him.

“I’ve been a cornerstone of WWE programming since 2002. That’s a long time, it’s more than 10 years. So much so that a portion of our audience has direct complacency with me. ‘Man, Cena holds everybody down. He doesn’t give the new guys a chance.’ “

As originally reported by the Inquisitr, Cena has taken a two-month hiatus from the WWE ring to film the reality series American Grit. This is far from Cena’s first foray into acting, as the world famous wrestling champion has starred in several films and televisions shows during his WWE stint. Most recently, Cena appeared in Judd Apatow’s comedy, Trainwreck.

Alongside comedian Amy Schumer and Bill Hader, Cena was a part of arguably his biggest movie yet. The film made over $110 million at the box office, per Box Office Mojo. Also, the movie has garnered an 85 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Cena has a lot more work to do to match the impact Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has made in transitioning from the ring to the big screen, but Cena says his role has allowed him to understand The Rock’s career choice.

“Personally, and this gives me a better perspective on Dwayne Johnson’s path, you get to a certain point and you cannot attract any more fans. Essentially, my productivity from a company standpoint… I’ve done as much as I can — 15 world championships and a myriad of other accomplishments. I don’t know what left I can do, but I still want to be able to put people in the building.”

While Cena’s presence is certainly an integral part of the WWE, he is not the only wrestler that the company has on its roster. In his absence, several WWE superstars who are on the cusp have a little bit more light shining down on them. As Cena alluded to earlier, fans have grown restless with Cena and accuse him of holding back several young, talented performers who fans want to see more of.

But Cena goes on to say that his passion for the WWE and being its top performer means everything to him. However, he also says that with him being off television for an extended period allows those performers to “step up” and impress not just him, but the higher-ups in the company, too.

“From a company perspective, as you know I hold it very near and dear to my heart, the dance floor is open, boys. I’m gone, let’s see who steps up. And I like that. As much as I want to try to distance myself or as much as someone who views me would try to distance myself from WWE, I’m never going to go.”

The return of John Cena is scheduled for the end of December. First up, Cena is scheduled to appear at WWE’s live event at Madison Square Garden on December 26. Then, Cena is scheduled to be on the debut edition of SmackDown on the USA Network.
