WWE News: Bret Hart Blames Triple H For CM Punk Quitting WWE, Says Punk Should Have Main-Evented ‘WrestleMania’

Ex-WWE World Heavyweight Champion and future UFC welterweight CM Punk is always a topic of conversation within pro wrestling, and mixed martial arts circles.

In the pro wrestling circle, the self-proclaimed “Best in the World” is almost universally loved among the fans, but in the MMA circle, it’s almost the polar opposite, as the hardcore MMA fans don’t respect the pro wrestling craft, and they respect its performers jumping to their sport even less. So, in short, some MMA fans just wish that either CM Punk just gives up on his goal of fighting in the UFC, or that if he does make it inside the octagon, he fights once, gets embarrassed, and retires from the sport.

If CM Punk ever did give up on his MMA dream and went back to pro wrestling, which is unlikely, that decision would please a lot of people, both on the MMA side and the pro wrestling side, with the MMA fans being glad that he’s leaving, and the pro wrestling fans being glad that he’s coming back.

One person who would love to see CM Punk back in the squared circle is WWE Hall of Famer Bret “The Hitman” Hart, who told Sports Illustrated that he misses seeing guys like Punk and Daniel Bryan on WWE television, and that he rarely ever watches WWE’s weekly shows because both of them are no longer part of the shows.

Of course, there’s a chance, albeit a small one due to WWE’s head of medical advising WWE to never let him wrestle again, that Daniel Bryan will return to the ring at some point in the near, or distant future, which would give “The Hitman” one reason to watch WWE on a weekly basis. However, there’s almost no chance of CM Punk returning to WWE, although he may end up wrestling somewhere else if his MMA career doesn’t work out.

It’s a well-known fact that CM Punk’s bitterness towards WWE started some time ago, and it all led to Punk abruptly leaving the company in January of last year.

Almost everybody who’s familiar with the WWE product and what goes on behind the scenes there — current wrestlers, ex-wrestlers, fans, and pundits — has a strong opinion on Punk’s decision to walk out. Some support his decision, some don’t. But, you can add Bret Hart to the list of supporters, as he respects the stand that CM Punk took against one of the company’s top executives Paul Levesque, better known as Triple H.

One of the last goals that CM Punk had in his wrestling career was to main-event a WrestleMania, but, he never got that opportunity, no matter how popular he may have been during his years with WWE. There’s a multitude of possible reasons why Punk was never given the main-event spot at WrestleMania, but Hart blames it on the fact that Triple H is a “bodybuilder nut,” and because Punk was never a body builder, “The Game” never thought Punk could be a draw as one half of the main-event at WWE’s biggest show of the year.

“I’d have to take Punk’s side on it. Triple H is a bodybuilder nut. He goes after the bodies. He doesn’t care how good–and he can look in the mirror–guys work, he cares how guys look. Punk and [Daniel] Bryan are guys concerned with how they work. It’s a different philosophy. I admire Punk for taking his stand. He was the guy doing all the work, every week, going injured, and here’s a guy sitting at home – working three or four times a year – and you’re going to give him the main event at WrestleMania? I’m not buying it.”

Several months after CM Punk walked out of WWE, he expressed his discontent with Triple H, saying that he resents him for trying to put a stop to his momentum that he had built up in the summer of 2011, when “The Game” came out of retirement, and beat him at a random pay-per-view for no logical reason, and then went right back into retirement.

Before Punk walked out, he was scheduled to wrestle, and beat, Triple H at WrestleMania 30. However, Punk wasn’t interested in working with Triple H because of the resentment he felt towards him. Moreover, Punk wouldn’t settle for anything less than the WrestleMania main-event because he felt like he had earned it. Vince McMahon tried to change Punk’s mind about his spot at that year’s WrestleMania by telling him that he was in one of the main-events because he was wrestling Triple H.

McMahon’s attempt at persuasion didn’t work, and Punk walked out. Now, the former “Best in the World” is on the road to his UFC debut, which is one of the most highly anticipated debuts in the history of the sport. However, his debut has been delayed due to a shoulder injury, and it’s beginning to look like it’ll be held off until UFC 200 next July, which may end up being the biggest UFC pay-per-view of all-time.
