Justin Bieber is famous and well sought after. Even while appearing in a car driving with James Corden for the host’s fun-filled segment “Carpool Karaoke,” Justin Bieber couldn’t avoid interaction with a paparazzo. One can only imagine if much of Justin Bieber’s contentious behavior is a result from his non-stop encounters with the paparazzi. While Bieber continues to earn critical praise for his new CD Purpose, it is clear he cannot escape the continual confrontations, and oftentimes harassment, from paparazzi who follow his every move, stalk him while vacationing, or follow him around while he films segments like Carpool Karaoke with James Cordon.
Just listen to the screams of this adoring fan for a few seconds, and then try imagining hearing that for hours and hours on end. While some view Justin Bieber’s lessons for fans on how to clap, speak to him, or approach him for photos and autographs as a bit overbearing, those who aren’t in his position really don’t have any idea what would have transpired to cause him to respond in such ways. It isn’t hard to imagine that if you’re listening to incessant shouts of your name, at some point, you’re going to snap.

While some accuse Justin Bieber of bad behavior, the truth is that it is because of the paparazzo’s camera that is always in his face that his behavior has been memorialized for all to witness. In a time when women face issues such as body shaming, the fact that paparazzi captured Justin Bieber nude in Bora Bora while vacationing goes to show how many of these people will stop at no lengths when invading his privacy. Unlike many who respond negatively to such a blatant violation of privacy, Justin Bieber spoke to Ellen DeGeneres and laughed about the incident. Again, one can only imagine what it’s like to sit down for an interview while a photo of you in the nude is plastered on a screen for everyone to see. Some have accused Justin Bieber of having a negative attitude, but the ability to laugh at the fact that paparazzi have photographed you nude and blasted the images for the world to see begs to differ.

Justin Bieber spoke to NME Magazine about the pressures he feels, particularly from the constant scrutiny from both fans and paparazzi. He expressed that it’s easy to become depressed and isolated. He was asked if he gets depressed. This was Justin Bieber’s response.
“All the time. And I feel isolated. You’re in your hotel room and there are fans all around, paparazzi following you everywhere, and it gets intense. When you can’t go anywhere or do anything alone you get depressed. There’s a famous Jim Carrey quote, ‘If everyone was famous then nobody would wanna be famous.’ [Carrey actually said: ‘I hope everybody could get rich and famous and will have everything they ever dreamed of, so they will know that it’s not the answer.’] And it’s true. I wouldn’t wish this upon anyone.”
