Florida Man Accused Of Setting His Dad On Fire

A Florida man has been charged with various crimes after authorities say he torched his father during a domestic dispute. CBS News Crimesider reports that 38-year-old Tabias Rollins has turned himself in to police after the incident.

Authorities allege that Tabias Rollins and his father got into a domestic squabble on Saturday, which turned incredibly violent. The 38-year-old man reportedly doused his elder with gasoline before setting him on fire. However, during the course of the violent act, their home caught on fire and he was also injured. Nonetheless, he fled from the scene of the crime, and was listed as wanted by authorities until he turned himself in the following day. He has since been treated for burns and other injuries he had sustained during the violent altercation.

The Daily Mail reports that the Florida man’s father has not been named in any reports, but he remains in critical condition in a Miami hospital. The 64-year-old man reportedly suffered burns to most of his body during the assault, but is quite lucky to be alive.

Tabias Rollins has been charged with attempted murder, as well as arson. He has also been charged with car theft after he allegedly stole his mother’s 2000 Cadillac DeVille to flee from the scene of the crime. Meanwhile, it’s been reported that the home that caught fire is “a total loss,” indicating that his mother and father have lost their home due to the violent incident. Fortunately, The Red Cross is reportedly providing assistance to the family during this time of tragedy.

This isn’t the first time a Florida man has committed a violent act of arson. Earlier this year, a Springfield man allegedly set fire to a door in order to enter an apartment, which ultimately failed. At the most, the fire caused substantial damage to the door’s weather stripping. Erick Deshaun Jones, II, confessed to the crime and was charged with arson.

Also this year, an Orlando man was arrested after he was “rescued” from a burning home. The reason was because he allegedly set the fire intentionally in an apparent attempt to kill his daughter. Reports indicated that 49-year-old Robert Merritt’s actions stemmed from a custody battle between him and the mother of his child.

Also this year, a Florida man was charged with murder after authorities say he torched a Brevard County home in an act of violence against a homeless man. The house had been vacant for years, and he and another homeless man were squatting in it at the time of the incident. Authorities say that 56-year-old Don Lyle Leach murdered the victim by setting fire to the home with him inside of it. Police believe that the 27-year-old victim was asleep in the home at the time of the fire. It’s incredibly fortunate that nobody was killed in the blaze that ruined their home.

As for Tabias Rollins, the Florida man, it is not known yet as to whether or not he has been given a bond/bail amount. Nor has it been reported on whether or not he is still being treated for the burns he received during Saturday’s incident. It has been confirmed, however, that he has been given four charges of attempted murder due to the number of people who were in the home at the time of the domestic dispute. It is also not clear at this time whether or not he has an attorney.
