Washington College Gun Threat Closes Campus: Jacob Marberger Sought For Questioning [Breaking News]


Washington College closed its campus in response to a gun threat. The Maryland announced that classes will temporarily be suspended around noon EST on Monday. School officials are urging staff and students already on the campus to shelter in place. The school has not released any details about why the student senate member, Jacob Marberger, issued a gun threat against his school.

On Monday morning, the parents of a Washington College sophomore called the school to inform officials that the student went to his home in Philadelphia to get a gun. The parents have not been able to reach their son since he retrieved the firearm. The Maryland college is located in Chestertown, MSN reports.

College spokesman Michael O’Connor says student has not yet been spotted on the Washington College campus, Yahoo News reports. The gun threat that closed down the college campus comes amid a threat of a terror attack on Washington, D.C., by ISIS.

Chestertown police are currently considering Jacob Marberger a missing person, according to a Fox News report. The Washington College student was reportedly last seen driving a green Range Rover. Students that reside in three residence halls on the campus have now been relocated to allow police officers to conduct a thorough search of the buildings.

Washington College is a private school, which has approximately 1,450 students enrolled in classes. The school is situated on 112 acres and was founded in 1782.

“Due to an abundance of caution the college has decided to close campus for the time being and asks all students and staff on campus to shelter in place,” a statement issued by Washington College officials, said. “Anyone off campus should stay away from campus until further notice.”

Washington College students reportedly hail from 35 states and 40 different countries. The liberal arts schools is surrounded by farmland and is located adjacent to a historic river town. Chestertown is located about 80 miles southeast of Philadelphia.

According to a Facebook page believed to belong to Jacob Marberger, he came the Washington College Student Government Association Speaker of the Senate in March.

Marberger is reportedly 5’4? tall and weighs about 130 pounds. The Washington College student has “light skin and brown curly hair,” according to a WBFF News report. He was last seen driving a 1997 dark green Land Rover with a Pennsylvania tag beginning with JWY.

“Students may move around within their residence halls and use restrooms and showers but at this point should still remain in their residence halls,” Maryland college officials noted in an update about the campus gun threat issued around 11 a.m. local time. “Off-campus students, faculty, and staff should still not come on campus.”
