Tom Sandoval Explains Why Lala Kent Didn’t Fit In On ‘Vanderpump Rules’

Tom Sandoval has been on Vanderpump Rules since the very beginning, and he has worked at SUR for years. He knows how people will fit in when they get a job with Lisa Vanderpump. Tom knows the dynamic at the restaurant, and he knows how his friends will judge others, especially while filming Vanderpump Rules. So when Sandoval heard that Lala Kent had been hired and had an interesting story to tell, he knew she was lying.

As it turns out, Tom Sandoval has a lot of experience when it comes to the modeling world, and he knew that no modeling company would fly a model to Italy to do a photoshoot. So when Lala was confronted with that news, she decided to come clean. She had lied about a modeling trip, which didn’t sit well with some of her co-stars.

According to a new Bravo report, Tom Sandoval is now revealing that he knew that Lala Kent was lying about her supposed modeling trip to Italy, because he has never been offered such a trip. And Tom has walked many runways and posed for many pictures over the years. But Tom wasn’t the only one who was very critical of Lala’s story. Scheana Shay and Katie Maloney were also very critical of her story.

“Lala wasn’t exactly honest. You know watching [that episode], right off the bat, and I’m the one that actually knew that immediately because I have 15 years in the modeling industry experience and I know 100 percent that nobody’s going to fly somebody in from L.A. to Milan unless they are Gisele,” Tom Sandoval revealed to Bravo’s Daily Dish about her lie.

But that simple lie didn’t ruin her entire experience at SUR. As it turns out, she still bonded with some of the other employees, including James Kennedy. The two have been hanging out quite a bit, and based on their social media activity, it could sound like they are dating. And Tom Sandoval has even forgiven that little lie.

“Besides that hiccup, for the most part [the new staff has] been really good because they’ve all been open books as far as who they are. We’ve had issues with people. You know, obviously our show is very real and we’ve known each other for many years and were a very tight-knit group and people want to come in and put on a front or try to act a certain way or whatever and that never works,” Sandoval explains.

Back when the group was filming Vanderpump Rules, Kent felt judged and pushed out of the group at SUR because she had lied. And she decided to confide in Jax Taylor about her feelings, according to Radar Online.

“I totally feel like I’m in junior high school,” Lala tells Jax, adding, “Like who you should be friends with and who you shouldn’t be friends with. Like what is this? Are we recruiting for dodgeball in sixth grade?”

“Well, welcome to SUR. That’s exactly what it is. This is a very cliquey, cliquey, super cliquey restaurant. This place is not an easy place to work,” Jax tells her, adding, “We should have a plaque of the girls that came in here and gone because they couldn’t hack it because these girls are such bullies. We’ve had girls—and I’m not stretching the truth at all—who were so excited to work here, last two or three hours and cry and run.”

It sounds like Lala Kent didn’t exactly get what she wanted from him. But she did survive at SUR, as it sounds like she is still working at the restaurant.

What is your first impression of Lala Kent? And do you think Tom Sandoval has a point about not really fitting in when you start your new job with a lie?
