Khloé Kardashian Tells Ellen DeGeneres Lamar Odom Has A Long And Difficult Recovery

Khloé Kardashian is promoting her new book, Stronger Looks Better Naked, and her tour took her to Ellen DeGeneres’ show. The episode will air Monday, but a teaser clip provided to Entertainment Weekly reveals that Kardashian’s estranged husband Lamar Odom has a long and difficult recovery ahead after his serious medical incident a month ago.

“He has such a long way to go. He’s learning how to walk again and feed himself again and put sentences together … It’s a long, long road ahead.”

It has been one month since Odom, 36, was found unconscious at a brothel in Nevada. It was later found, as Us Weekly reported, that the former basketball player and Keeping Up With the Kardashians star had herbal Viagra, cocaine and alcohol in his system.

As Kardashian told DeGeneres, the injury and recovery has had significant physical and psychological effects.

“He never asks why he’s here. He doesn’t ask. He’s really confused a lot — sometimes he knows who the president is and his birthday, and sometimes he thinks he’s 26, and I say I bet you wish you were 26, so do I!”

Lamar also doesn’t know the details of what happened. Khloé revealed they’ve told him he suffered a brain injury, but not how it was caused, as that information may negatively affect his recovery.

Khloé told Ellen she is no longer romantically involved with Lamar, but given his current medical situation, it would be “insensitive” to “fast-forward” their divorce. The couple’s divorce paperwork had been signed and was awaiting a judge’s approval at the time of Lamar’s accident.

Kardashian joked that she is a “polygamist,” given her ongoing relationship with James Harden and her marriage to Lamar.

“Ya know, it’s definitely a very unique situation, to say the least. Yeah, he’s [Harden] fine with it. I mean, we have to communicate a lot. And he’s really supportive and great.”

Khloé and Lamar married on September 27, 2009, after a very quick courtship. As People reported at the time, the two had dated only a month before walking down the aisle. The wedding was filmed for the family’s reality show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Kardashian’s then-stepfather, Bruce Jenner, now known as Caitlyn Jenner, walked Khloe down the aisle.

Khloé and Lamar had their own eponymous spin-off series. Khloé was open about her long struggle to conceive a child with Lamar. The couple never had children. Lamar had three children from a previous relationship: Destiny, Lamar Jr. and Jayden. Jayden passed away at the age of six-months-old back in 2006. Lamar’s kids and his former partner, Liza Morales, were spotted at the hospital in the early days of his recovery.

Khloé Kardashian’s famous family has been putting in time with Lamar at the hospital as well. On Ellen, Khloe said she was grateful for her family’s support during this time.

“I love him and I always will, and he’s a fantastic person who deserves support and love and for someone to be by his side, and for me, I’m that to him. And thank God I have a fantastic family who loves me and loves him just as much. And they’re so supportive and they’re with me and I have a great boyfriend who’s understanding.”
