Become ‘Fallout 4’s Post-Apocalyptic Barbarian With Grognak’s Axe And Cash In On Overdue Books [Spoilers]

[Ed. Note: This article contains mild spoilers for the main storyline of Fallout 4.]

For some of the more practical Vault 111 dwellers, some Fallout 4 Easter eggs may be more important to you than others. But the Fallout 4 exclusive comic book, Grognak the Barbarian, perhaps inspired by a certain character portrayed by the former governor of California, offers value to a player’s melee and unarmed combat stats by pumping up their critical hit damage by 5 percent, according to LazyGamer. A third issue offers up the ability to unlock the holotape game of Grognak in Fallout 4.

Locations for the Gronak the Barbarian comic books in Fallout 4 are in the vault dweller’s home neighborhood of Sanctuary Hills. The other two issues can be found at Converga Assembly Plant and Memory Den.

Combine these Grognak bonuses with his axe, and loin cloth, you then have a literal Fallout 4 post-apocalyptic barbarian. According to VG24/7, if you put it all together, combined with the Swing for the Fences perk, you indeed have a loin-clothed vault dweller that can deal some major melee damage. VG24/7 reported that the weapon can deal a nice 42 points of damage and can be found under lock and key at Hubris comics. Mind you, that you would require an advanced ability to pick locks or partner with someone that has this Fallout 4 ability.

The following steps to find Grognak the Barbarian’s unique weapon is as follows. YouTuber FudgeMuppet put together a quick Fallout 4 video giving a visual. A quick transcription of the video for this area of Fallout 4 was given here.

  • Go to Hubris Comics located north east of Diamond City and slightly below Vault 114.
  • Enter the building, bottom level, behind the counter to the left there’s a glass showcase.
    • Note: The showcase requires advanced lock picking skills or advanced hacking to access the Fallout 4 terminal to unlock it.
    • If you have neither of the advanced skills, find a companion that does. The NPC and synth, Nick Valentine is such a character and can be discovered via the Jewel of the Commonwealth quest.
  • Ghouls will be prominent at the location.
  • The loincloth is located at the top level of the store at some book shelves and adds two to strength.

With the aforementioned Fallout 4Swing for the Fences perk, one can even gain an opportunity of knocking a weapon out of their hands. The axe itself lends to bleeding damage and causes opponents to stagger.

The loin cloth does provide for the Fallout 4 aesthetics that ties into the barbarian theme, making for a bit more of an increase in armor and melee damage, dealing out a nice 50 points to an evil wastelander.

As far as the holotape game that’s unlocked by one of the Grongak the Barbarian comic books, GameRanx reported only that it’s an old school, text-based RPG, remnant of the legacy computer systems of the past. It seems apropos in regards to the quite archaic looking terminals in Fallout 4. It’s entitled “Grognak the Barbarian and the Ruby Ruins.”

Fallout 4 Easter Eggs

According to Bustle, other non-comic book publications also make for nice rewards. For instance, gamers may have come across overdue library books in Fallout 4. Chances are these players probably passed them over as lacking importance, but if you take these books to the Boston Public Library, they can yield promising items. The books themselves are worth two caps, but there’s a machine at the library that yields a single token. Upon collecting enough tokens, this can lead up to turning it all in for a rare Fallout 4 item.

For example, for those who want to “get surgical” on with their enemies, when a Fallout 4 player cashes in 50 tokens given by the library, that amount can be turned in for the Massachusetts Surgical Journal #8. This can, indeed, can deal 2 percent limb damage to enemies.

Fallout 4 was released November 10, and according to gaming director Todd Howard, there’s plenty of Easter eggs to be had.
