'Outlander' Author Diana Gabaldon Explains Getting Caught Kissing Star Sam Heughan

Perry Carpenter

Diana Gabaldon surprised fans everywhere when she openly kissed Outlander star Sam Heughan during a recent Q & A session in Germany. In fact, once images of the now famous kiss reached social media, fans reacted with a good amount of jealousy and were left wondering what was going on between the two.

"When @caitrionambalfe away Diana will play," One Twitter user wrote alongside the image of Gabaldon kissing Heughan. "Does anyone know the story behind this @Writer_DG @SamHeughan?"

Luckily, Gabaldon was on hand to answer this question and reveal why she felt the need to lock lips with the Outlander hunk. Apparently, it was just that kind of Q & A session that concluded with a round of kisses for everyone, not just Gabaldon and Heughan.

"We'd just done a successful show and everybody was kissing/hugging everybody onstage," Gabaldon responded on Twitter. "Gary kissed me about ten seconds after that, and Graham kissed me before Sam did."

Meanwhile, with Heughan and Gabaldon promoting the show in Germany, the series is currently working on its highly anticipated second season. Although we are still months away from the premiere, there have been a few spoilers leaked as filming continues for the new season.

In particular, the latest news is in regards to the casting of Brianna Randall in the new season. According to Movie News Guide, producers are closer than ever in casting her part with auditions currently well underway. Does this mean that producers are ready to select someone and that fans can expect an announcement in the coming weeks?

Briana is one of a number of different characters that are set to be introduced in the new season. Based on her characterization in the book, Briana is a young women who is strong-willed, smart, and has a good deal of humor that she inherited from her parents, Claire and Jamie Fraser.

With those traits in mind, it has been rumored that producers are thinking about casting Maeve Foley for the role. That being said, the idea that Foley is up for the part is pure speculation as the show has been tight lipped about its casting progress. In fact, producer Maril Davis recently wrote on Twitter that they still have not cast anyone for the role, and that fans should only trust reports from Starz as there is a lot of misinformation online.

Even still, there have been reports that auditions have already started, and that a good number of women were spotted getting ready to try out for the role. Additionally, there have been a few auctions videos that have already leaked online, which seems to indicate that producers are really moving forward with casting.

Speaking of news concerning the second season, we still don't know for sure when season two will premiere on Starz. Hopefully, the network will soon reveal its official spring schedule and fans can learn exactly when the hit show will return to television.
