Jessa Duggar Seewald Shares Details On Baby’s Birth, Needed Blood Transfusion After 48 Hours Of Labor

Jessa Duggar Seewald is now a mom for the first time, and she is thrilled to have given birth to her and husband Ben’s beautiful baby boy. He was born last Thursday night after what seemed like a long nine months. However, it was not an easy time during the labor and delivery of the newborn who weighed 9 lb., 11 oz.

In a brand new exclusive interview with People, Jessa has now opened up on what happened the night that she was rushed to the hospital after delivering her firstborn. The Duggar daughter had planned on a home birth, but there was always the plan to change things if there was any reason that the mom’s or the baby’s life was threatened during the birth. That is exactly what happened that night, when mom Michelle Duggar was forced to call 911.

Jessa Duggar said that after 10 hours of contractions, she was ready to bail and head to the hospital. The 23-year-old reality star can laugh now, but at that time it seems like she was starting to panic just a bit.

“I said, ‘That’s it! I’m done! I am going to the hospital and I’m going to get an epidural. They asked me if I really wanted to do that and I said, ‘No, I don’t, but I do.’ I wanted to try natural if at all possible.”

Even Ben Seewald seemed to get emotional during the whole thing, as his wife was in the first stages of labor. The new dad said that he was trying to keep Jessa positive, but that it was hard to see her like that and thinking that she couldn’t do the home birth anymore. Unfortunately, the pain didn’t last only 10 hours, but it took 48 hours before the baby arrived. The official time that baby Seewald entered into the word was 6:54 p.m. on November 5.

The baby boy was perfectly fine, but as fans soon found out, Jessa Duggar was not. TMZ had quickly posted that there were paramedics who had come to the Seewald’s home, and the new mom was then rushed to the hospital while her family cared for the baby.

Jessa told People that she was bleeding hard and that the midwife who was caring for her made the decision to have her taken for treatment. Midwives are trained to be aware of any medical emergencies that may occur during labor and delivery. Michelle Duggar was really calm as she was heard on the phone with 911 describing that her daughter was bleeding hard. Jessa almost passed out from the excessive blood loss, but the family seemed to do their best to keep her awake.

At the hospital, Jessa received a blood transfusion. In the family photo that was posted of her with Ben and baby Seewald, she looked pretty weak, but also looked very proud of her new son. The whole experience did not exactly go as she had planned it. The home birth was supposed to give her the chance to hold her first child right away and bond with him like all mothers want to do. Jessa Duggar shared how she felt about it.

“I had dreamed about those first moments, getting to breastfeed right away, all that. And so when I had to go to the hospital, it was a shock.”

She also mentioned that it was all very different than she thought it would be. However, she is extremely happy and blessed to have their son born healthy.

What have Jessa Duggar Seewald and husband Ben named their baby? Well, they haven’t yet decided on the name yet, but they will be sure to post that as soon as they have decided. Apparently, the married couple can’t decide on the middle name for their bundle of joy. It has been a few days now since his birth, and fans are getting antsy waiting for them to choose.

Jessa has been sharing her whole pregnancy on social media, and now she will be sharing photos of the new baby as he grows and all of those special moments in their lives. This will most likely all play out on the new TLC reality show, Jill and Jessa: Counting On, premiering in December.

How many kids are they planning on having? Apparently, they may be thinking of baby No. 2 already, as People has teased. The magazine has more details, and new photos, in their next publication coming out on Friday.
