Lamar Odom Continues Recovery, Is Learning How To Walk Again

Lamar Odom has been recovering from an alleged drug overdose and multiple strokes for nearly a month, and while the prognosis for his future was initially quite dire, he has continued to progress in recent weeks.

On October 13, Lamar Odom was found unconscious at Dennis Hof’s Love Ranch, a legal brothel in Pahrump, Nevada, with mucus coming out of his nose and mouth. Right away, the former NBA star was taken to a nearby hospital. En route, Lamar Odom was stabilized, and at the hospital, he was intubated. From there, Lamar Odom traveled to the Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, where his wife, Khloe Kardashian, met him. However, at the time, he was in a coma and remained in this condition until three days later. Once Lamar Odom woke up from his coma, he was transferred from the Sunrise Hospital to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he has been ever since.

On November 9, Kardashian gave a health update on her husband while attending a signing for her new memoir, Strong Looks Better Naked, at Los Angeles’ The Grove. Below is what she revealed of Lamar Odom’s current state to Extra.

“[Lamar Odom]’s definitely doing better, which is awesome. Every day is better, he’s off of all machines that, he is alive on his own, and no machines are helping him, which is great, but he still has a lot of physical and cognitive therapy to go through, so it’s a long road for him.”

“Every day is different — some days he’s really strong, and some days he’s weaker than the day before ’cause it’s mentally draining, I’m sure, on [Lamar Odom],” Kardashian continued.

As for what’s next for Lamar Odom, his wife claimed walking is first on the list of things to do.

“He will try to learn how to walk… so that is first… When he can support himself on his own, or physically try to walk better on his own or at least with an assistance, with, like, a walker, then he will probably leave the hospital and do a lot of cognitive and mental strengthening.”

According to a second report regarding Lamar Odom, a source claimed that while the former professional athlete has been doing better and better in recent weeks, he’s far from out of the woods, and there is still a chance that he may never be fully back to normal.

“[Lamar Odom] is doing OK, but by no means is he back to his old self,” a source told Hollywood Life on November 10. “Standing and walking for long periods of time is a struggle. So is talking to some extent and his memory has been effected. To be honest, [Lamar Odom] may never fully recover.”

Since Lamar Odom was hospitalized last month, rumors have claimed his story may be featured on the upcoming season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Because his medical crisis took place as wife Kardashian filmed Season 11, many feel that the issue will be discussed. However, there was no mention of Lamar Odom in the Season 11 trailer, so there’s a good possibility that he will be left off of the show completely.

To see more of Lamar Odom’s wife’s family, including the Jenner girls and the Kardashian sisters, tune into the 11th season premiere of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, airing this Sunday night, November 15, at 9 p.m. on the E! Network.
