Gigi Hadid Was Rejected By Victoria’s Secret Twice, But Look At Her Now [Photos]

Gigi Hadid got to join BFF Kendall Jenner at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show last night, but getting there was no easy task for the popular young model — Gigi got turned down twice before she was finally given the chance to rock the runway in Victoria’s Secret lingerie.

During a recent interview, Gigi Hadid’s supportive mom, Yolanda Foster, revealed that the model had to get used to rejection while she doggedly pursued her dream walking in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. According to the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, Gigi kept trying out for the show until she finally snagged a spot alongside living model legends like Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio. For Gigi Hadid, her third time was the charm.

“She has worked really hard; this didn’t just fall into her lap,” Yolanda told the Daily Mail. “She’s missed it twice, this was her third try and she pulled it off and got a spot that millions and millions of beautiful women deserve as much as she does. That’s a part of the game though.”

According to Hollywood Life, 20-year-old Gigi Hadid made her big Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show debut in a beautiful butterfly costume that featured a flowing, hand-painted cape in different blue hues. The cape was painted to look like butterfly wings, and Gigi also wore a hard, black bodice shaped like butterflies. It wrapped around her stomach, and she also had giant butterflies on her shoulders.

Underneath her butterfly bodice, Gigi Hadi wore Victoria’s Secret’s Very Sexy Satin and Lace Push Up Bra and Matching Panty in the color wintergreen lace with jade garden, and she completed her look with a pair of brightly-colored high heels featuring a butterfly design.

Gigi Hadid Makes A Turn At The VS Fashion Show

Even though Gigi looked amazing on the runway, Yolanda Foster might be more impressed with her daughter’s Victoria’s Secret Show audition video. According to the proud mom, she just can’t stop watching it. Yolanda revealed that she has relived Gigi’s emotional moment “a hundred times,” and it makes her cry every time she watches her daughter’s joyous reaction to learning that she made the cut.

Gigi appears at the 3:28 mark in the “Making of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show” below. She totally nails her audition with a confident walk, a few playful faces, and a teasing head toss. The Victoria’s Secret models get to wear outrageous outfits during the fashion show, but Gigi had to prove that she has what it takes to own the runway by strutting her stuff in a plain black bra and matching panty. She also had to stand out from hundreds of other models to get the gig.

The bubbly blonde made her walk extra fun and flirty this year after learning a very important lesson last year: you can’t be timid if you want to score a spot in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show. During an interview with Vogue, Gigi Hadid explained why she didn’t make the cut in 2014.

“They asked me to come to the casting, and I trained every day and worked so, so hard for it. And you know what? At the end of the day, I was just too shy. I got in there and I freaked out. I was so nervous, and I think that how nervous I was came out as shy. Obviously in the show you just have to bring it. Clearly I wasn’t ready to do that if I was so nervous doing just the casting.”

Gigi Hadid was clearly ready to bring it this year, and you can watch her victory walk when the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show airs December 8, 2015, at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
