Rihanna is never short of memorable or shocking moments to offer. From wearing a dazzling, exceedingly bold, see-through dress at the CFDA, to suffering a wardrobe malfunction at the Met Gala, Rihanna certainly seems to be surrounded by controversy when it comes to dressing, but most likely embraces it.
Speaking of controversy, she last week announced that she will not be performing at this year’s star-studded Victoria Secret fashion show, which has already commenced and is set to be aired on December 8 via CBS. This is according to People Style Watch. Rihanna’s decision to pull out of the highly anticipated event has sparked speculation as to whether she decided to do so as a result of Jourdan Dunn being replaced by Kendall Jenner. The switch has drawn mixed reactions among fans, especially considering how hard it is to make it to the final list. For this year, there were only 44 finalists selected from 500 applicants, with some of them being featured on Victoria Secret’s BTS video.
With so many contestants vying to get into the show, the journey has been heartbreaking for some. In the case of Izabel Goulart, a Brazilian supermodel who pled with the panel to let her perform after being denied, she stated the following about it amid tears, as reported by The Mirror.
“Every year it feels like it’s the very, very first show and one thing that I do all year long is really try to…to work as hard as I can so I can deserve to be here, to be a part of the moment that only happens at the show, at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.”
This seems to explain the agony Rihanna felt when Jourdan was replaced by Kendall, but that is still unconfirmed. However, the experience for many has been summed up by the Mirror in its headline, as follows – “Sobbing in your underwear while begging for a job: What it really takes to be a Victoria’s Secret model.”
Away from the VS fashion news, it has been revealed that Rihanna has ordered a customized latex fetish suit from The Stockroom, a BDSM store in California. According to TMZ, Rihanna’s stylist recently contacted the store to order a product that was supposed to be completed in 48 hours. Apparently, it was a full-body catsuit order in black and navy blue colors, and made specifically from latex produced by Syren Couture, which is a high-end latex brand.
Rihanna’s personal measurement details were sent to the store and included, from shoulder to shoulder, nipple to nipple and so on. According to TMZ, the total cost of her gear was $2,000. It was supposedly to be used in one of Rihanna’s upcoming music videos.
Famous for her-not so-subtle dress code and dramatically risqué videos, fans can expect a continuation of this. Last year, the “naked gown” Rihanna wore at the CFDA Awards created quite a buzz as she was almost naked. Made out of a fishnet and diamonds, it was reported that Drake, who had just broken up with Rihanna, wasn’t too amused by her dress choice that day. According to Hollywood Life, a source who spoke to the site stated the following in regards to Drake’s reaction.
“It’s fashion and glam, he guesses. Personally, he’s not surprised that his ex would wear something like that. She loves to shock people but with that ensemble, she made them gag… He’s old school and would prefer his woman to only reveal her naked body to him and him alone.”
