Russell Westbrook Will Be Playing Through Pain Tonight, Says Coach Brooks

Russell Westbrook has been playing with a wrap around his injured left thumb for the last few days, but coach Scott Brooks expects his guard to play through the pain tonight.

According to Sports Illustrated, Westrbook was taking one-handed shots with his right hand during the Oklahoma City Thunder’s shoot-around this morning. Westbrook removed the wrap at the end of the session to attempt some shots with both hands.

After the shoot-around, Coach Brooks said: “Obviously there’s a little pain but nothing to prevent him from playing the way he can play.”

ESPN reports that Westbook has been playing with the injury since the Western Conference finals. The star guard may have re-injured the thumb during OKC’s victory over the Miami Heat on Tuesday night. Westbrook was not wearing any sort of bandage on this thumb during game one.

Westbrook said:

“I only know one way to play and that is to stay in the attack mode… I can’t change my style now because it got me to this point. That is how my coach and my teammates want me to play and that is all that matters.”

The Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder meet again tonight for game two in OKC.
