NFL Week 9: Last Minute Fantasy Football Advice & Tips [Jeremy Langford, Derek Carr]

With just hours remaining before the first Sunday kickoff of NFL’s Week 9, the NFL Fantasy Football experts have plenty of tips and advice to help you dominate your league this week.

Quarterbacks — Adam Rank of NFL.com is really big on Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr this week, after a great game against the Jets last week (31.32 points) and a match-up against a mediocre Pittsburgh Steelers this week. New York Giants QB Eli Manning was also listed as a “sleeper,” even though he had a whopping 40 points last week. Rank also expects Tampa Bay Bucs QB Jameis Winston to do much better than his projected 12.68 points against the Manning and the Giants. Anita Marks of ESPN advised Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor against the Miami Dolphins.

Wide Receivers — With Keenan Allen injured for the remainder of the season, San Diego WR Stevie Johnson was selected by Marks as the top sleeper in the NFL’s wide receiver pool. Rank picked Johnson, as well. With Allen’s injury, Johnson is expected by both parties to pick up more than his projected 9.4 points. Along with Johnson, Rank also named St. Louis Rams WR Tevon Austin and New England Patriots WR Brandon LaFall as WR sleepers for Week 9. DeSean Jackson will be back for the Washington Redskins, but it’s barely being talked about this week.

Running Backs — Brad Evans and Brandon Funston of Yahoo! Fantasy Sports made the same claim as almost every expert by naming Chicago Bears RB Jeremy Langford as the back to pick up (Langford was the only back named by Rank), as he’ll be filling in for Matt Forte this week against the San Diego Chargers on Monday Night Football. They’re also very big on Denver Broncos RB C.J. Anderson against the Indianapolis Colts this week.

Tight Ends — TE can be a real head-scratcher week in and week out. Assuming you weren’t lucky enough to have guessed that Cincinnati Bengals TE Tyler Eifert would score three touchdowns this week, you may still be uncomfortable with your current tight end. For sleepers, Rank would have you go with Pittsburgh Steelers TE Heath Miller against the Oakland Raiders and New Orleans Saints TE Benjamin Watson against the Tennessee Titans. Miller is Marks’ first choice, although her “honorable mentions” at this position for NFL Week 9 include Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed against the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills TE Charles Clay against the Dolphins.

Defense/Special Teams — As SB Nation points out, six NFL teams have byes this week, two of them having top ten defenses. That makes this week’s decision even more tough. Looking at Bleacher Report’s Jim McCormick’s Week 9 fantasy football analysis, the top choice this week appears to be the St. Louis Rams against the Minnesota Vikings. The Falcons are mentioned as a strong pick against the San Francisco 49ers, and his sleeper pick is the New Orleans Saints defense against the Tennessee Titans.

Kicker — According to the “Consensus of 100 Experts” posted at Fantasy Pros, the top five choices for a kicker for Week 9 should be: Stephen Gostkowski (New England Patriots) against the Washington Redskins, Brandon McManus (Denver Broncos) against the Colts, Josh Lambo (San Diego Chargers) against the Bears, Matt Bryant (Atlanta Falcons) against the 49ers, and Josh Brown (New York Giants) against Tampa Bay.
