Parents Of Missing Girl Erica Parsons Found With Bizarre Stash Of JonBenet Ramsey Memorabilia

What does the infamous murder of six-year-old JonBenet Ramsey in her home in 1996 have to do with the disappearance of teen girl Erica Parsons in 2011? That’s what investigators would like to know.

The story of JonBenet Ramsey is as sad as it is bizarre. According to the Review Journal, the tiny beauty pageant princess was found dead in the basement of her home on December 25, 1996. JonBenet Ramsey had received a blow to the head before being strangled. Her parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, were widely thought to be the perpetrators due to strange behavior and evidence, such as a 25-page ransom note left at the home, which was examined and found to have been written on paper from the Ramsey household. However, in 2008, DNA evidence showed that JonBenet’s mom and dad were not to blame after all. The case has never been solved.

Mark Beckner, who was chief of the Boulder, Colorado police department during the JonBenet investigation, shared these facts from the case.

“We know from the evidence [JonBenet Ramsey] was hit in the head very hard with an unknown object, possibly a flashlight or similar type item. The blow knocked her into unconsciousness, which could have led someone to believe she was dead. The strangulation came 45 minutes to two hours after the head strike, based on the swelling on the brain. While the head wound would have eventually killed her, the strangulation actually did kill her. The rest of the scene we believe was staged, including the vaginal trauma, to make it look like a kidnapping/assault gone bad.”

So how does this tie in with the disappearance of young Erica Parsons? The events surrounding both cases are certainly bizarre, and have not yet been solved, but during a search of Erica Parsons’ house, investigators found a “plastic bag with JonBenet Ramsey magazines” and a “JonBenet book with notes inside about remodeling house,” reports CBS News.

This discovery alone may not be grounds for suspicion, but when coupled with red stains found inside a closet where drywall had been taken down, as well as red stains on the baseboards of the same closet, suspicion begins to grow. The area was tested for blood, and the baseboards taken in for examination.

Erica Parsons was the adoptive daughter of Sandy and Casey Parsons. Erica’s brother, James Parsons, is the one who reported her missing during a visit home in July of 2013. He had not seen her since November of 2011. Sandy and Casey Parsons told him that Erica had gone to live with her biological grandmother, Irene “Nan” Goodman, who they had met online. Though police scoured the area of Asheville, North Carolina, they could find no one whose life circumstances matched with that name. They do not believe this woman exists. James claims that the Parsons’ abused Erica on a regular basis. The following is noted on one of the search warrants.

“James told investigators that Sandy and Casey Parsons routinely abused Erica both mentally and physically. James also reported that Sandy and Casey Parsons continued to receive checks for Erica from the State of North Carolina after she was last seen in 2011.”

According to WSOC TV, Sandy and Casey Parsons said their daughter, Brook, accompanied them on the trip to deliver Erica Parsons to Asheville. When interviewed by police, Brook denied that she had gone with them, commenting that she had been home babysitting. Oddly enough, although the Parsons claim that Erica went to live with her grandmother, they have continued receiving monthly checks for the adoption of Erica.

This week, it seemed there had finally been a breakthrough in the Erica Parsons case when the owner of her former home dug up bones in his land. Speculation ran wild, expecting the remains to be those of Erica. However, the bones were found not to be human, and rather a small animal. The mystery surrounding the disappearance of Erica Parsons has not been solved. What do you think happened to Erica?
