Bindi Irwin ‘DWTS’ Contract Rejected? Judge Wants Release Form From Steve Irwin

Bindi Irwin may receive applause from judges on Dancing with the Stars, but she reportedly received rejection from a courtroom judge.

TMZ reports that attorneys representing the hit dance competition show filed a minor’s contract on behalf of the 17-year-old contestant with a Superior Court Judge in Los Angeles.

Terri Irwin, Bindi’s mother, reportedly signed a form which surrenders her right to any money that her daughter makes while competing on Dancing with the Stars.

According to the report, the judge rejected the minor’s contract due to not having the same type of release form signed by Bindi’s father, the late “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin. Without having the proof that Steve surrendered his rights, the judge stated that “the court is unable to find that it is in the best interest of the minor to be bound by the terms of the contract.”

Perhaps this is just a technicality that can be resolved by presenting Steve Irwin’s death certificate to the judge for review. On the other hand, as mentioned by TMZ, the judge may not have known that Bindi’s father passed away tragically over nine years ago.

The report further states that the attorneys working behind the scenes of Dancing with the Stars will take the necessary steps to get the judge to approve Bindi’s contract.

Doing so will allow the young actress and conservationist to reap the financial advantage of her success on the show so far this season.

TMZ reportedly outlined the complete terms of her contract. In addition to a guaranteed $125,000 payday, Bindi received progressive pay raises over the course of her DWTS journey thus far.

  • Weeks 3 & 4: $10,000 per week
  • Week 5: $15,000
  • Weeks 6 & 7: $20,000 per week
  • Weeks 8 & 9: $30,000 per week

This means that, as of right now, Bindi Irwin has already built up a nice lump sum of $230,000 and counting. As long as Bindi continues advancing in the competition, she will make $50,000 a week for Weeks 10 & 11.

With five-time DWTS champion Derek Hough as her partner, her chances of winning the entire competition are pretty high. Bindi Irwin used her successful performance on Dancing with the Stars to pay tribute to her deceased father last month.

Before performing the tribute routine, which made headlines shortly after it ended, Bindi opened up in a prerecorded video about how the tragic death of her father has affected her life.

“What shaped me the most would probably be when my dad passed away. You know it’s been nine years and I’ve never really dwelt on that point when he did pass away. So I think that I’m ready to tell that story… It took a really long time to understand what actually happened. For the rest of my life I’ll kind of feel like he’s going to come home.”

Derek Hough and Bindi Irwin danced their heartwarming routine to the song, “Every Breath You Take” by Aaron Krause — a dance number that received the young actress a score of 28 out of 30.

Nearly one month after Steve’s death, Terri opened up about her then 8-year-old daughter Bindi in an interview with Barbara Walters. She claimed that Bindi had “a spirituality about her” that she also saw with her husband. Terri further expressed that Bindi had “unbelievable sensitivity” as well as an “uncanny connection with wildlife.”

Apparently, in the nine years that has passed since that interview, Bindi Irwin is still the same and now gets to share those admirable qualities with the rest of the world.
