DJ Crème de la Crème is opening up for the first time about his sex tape, admitting that it has brought him great shame and apologizing both to his family and to the woman featured with him in the video.
The DJ, who is the most well-known and well loved in Kenya, appeared this week in an explicit video with a woman who is not his wife. This week the DJ, whose real name is George Njuguna, issued an apology to the woman who appeared in it and to his own family, the Mirror noted.
In a long statement posted to his Instagram page, DJ Crème de la Crème said the sex tape has brought "enormous" shame and said he took full responsibility.
"A lot has been said, tweeted, updated and illustrated. A lot of harsh words, a barrage of jokes, but at the same time, a flurry of encouraging communication from my fans, friends, colleagues and family. All is noted, appreciated and taken to heart. I shall reflect on it all. To my family, I truly I am sorry. You are my rock, the foundation upon which I find strength. I sincerely apologise for bringing shame to our trust, your names, persons' and legacy. I humbly seek your forgiveness, your grace and mercy. Please forgive me."DJ Crème de la Crème did not specifically name his own wife or family in the message, but did name the woman who appeared, Halima Nasir, and to her daughter and family.
"To Halima, I apologies for the trouble this has caused you, your daughter and your family. I am sorry for the exposure and ridicule this whole situation has cause."The DJ Crème de la Crème sex tape scandal has spread far beyond Kenya, making international headlines and dominating search trends across Africa and Europe.
Prior to the release of the sex tape, George Njuguna had a reputation as a loving family man. He has been married to wife, Denise, for close to nine years and the couple has two children together, a son named Jamari and a daughter named Zawadi. The sex tape release was reminiscent of another international scandal that nearly took down a star. In the Philippines, Eat Bulaga star Wally Bayola was featured in a sex tape with co-star Yoshika "Yosh" Rivera that leaked in 2013. Bayola's career was nearly sunk, and it took him more than a year to return.
"I'm still ashamed," Bayola told GMA News in his native Filipino, saying it took a long time for him to move past the scandal.
As Wally Bayola explained last year, he even considered suicide in the wake of the scandal, Philstar reported.
"The gun was cocked, ready to be fired. And just when he was about to pull the trigger, determined 'to end it all,' the phone rang. It brought him back to his senses.Wally Bayola has since fully returned to the show, and plays a major role in the international AlDub phenomena, which features the love story between characters Yaya Dub and Alden. Bayola plays Yaya's overprotective aunt, Lola Nidora.
Finally talking about the sex video (with an EB dancer) that drove him to desperation after it went viral in September last year, Wally Bayola said that he was thankful that he didn't correct a wrong by committing another wrong."
But in the wake of his sex tape scandal, DJ Crème de la Crème has found support from many of his fans, who have left encouraging messages and offered words of forgiveness for the video. It is not clear if the DJ plans to take time away from his work during the scandal.
