Nick Carter Was Surprised In More Ways Than One On ‘Dancing With The Stars’ When He Learned He’s Having A Son

Fans of Dancing with the Stars love those moments when the celebrities show their human sides, especially when they share a personal moment with the viewing audience during the show. Take, for example, Noah Galloway’s proposal to girlfriend Jamie Boyd during last season. Sadly, the couple announced last month they are no longer planning to get married, but at the time, viewers gushed as he unexpectedly dropped to one knee and popped the question.

On Monday, it was former Backstreet Boy Nick Carter’s turn to make the audience swoon. Carter and his professional partner, Shauna Burgess, danced in honor of Carter’s wife, Lauren Kitt, who he said was his hero. In the pre-performance package, Carter and Kitt revealed their struggle to conceive a baby and their just-announced pregnancy. Kitt is currently 16 weeks along, and the video showed the soon-to-be parents gazing at a sonogram.

But there was a surprise in store not just for the audience at home, but for Carter and Kitt, who found out live on the air they are going to have a son. As Carter told Glamour entertainment reporter Jessica Radloff, they knew the reveal was about to happen — but not how or what the result would be. So the huge gift box that contained blue balloons was just as unexpected for them as for everyone else.

As Lauren explained, the public revelation last week about her pregnancy was not planned.

“[T]he news got leaked about the pregnancy without us telling our friends and family, so this was something we had control over. We said [to the producers], you guys can know and then reveal it however you want.”

And the way the news came out — complete with a screen behind the couple that read, “it’s a (backstreet) boy,” — was just fine with them, according to Carter.

“It was a total surprise to see the big box [backstage]. I think the way they did it was adorable.”

The moment for Carter and Kitt happened just after the singer got a perfect score for his dance. It gave him and Burgess immunity from the dance-off that happened later in the program and made the gender reveal all the more special. Carter told People that he wanted his future child to see how they reacted to his pending arrival.

“I wanted that because I think that one day my baby boy might come back and watch it and say, ‘Wow. Dad really loved Mom that much.'”

He also wanted everyone to know how strongly he feels about his wife.

“I feel like Lauren has made me a better man. And when you feel that way about someone, you want to stand on the mountaintop and scream it out.”

Appropriately, Nick and Sharna’s dance was set to the classic song, “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” as E! Online reported.

Next week on Dancing with the Stars, teams are paired up and going to different parts of the country to watch a performance and choreograph a dance inspired by it — at least that’s how Burgess and fellow professional Mark Ballas explained it. Nick and Sharna are teamed with Tamar and Val, who will all take in Cirque du Soleil’s show Love. Ballas and his partner, Alexa PenaVega, are paired with Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough, and Ballas said they are going to New York to watch a show — he didn’t drop a name, however.

Viewers can witness the dances next Monday at 8 p.m. on ABC when Dancing with the Stars returns.
