The fifth season of Scandal has already featured a number of exciting twists concerning the relationship between Olivia (Kerry Washington) and Fitz (Tony Goldwyn). From enjoying their time together at the end of last season, to facing down all of the controversy stemming from their now-public relationship this season, the two have certainly been through it all. Given the fragile state of things as they currently stand, is it possible that the two may have to end things before it all falls apart?
Although many were excited at the prospects of the two finally being together at the end of last season, they have faced a lot of hurdles that have kept them apart in Season 5. According to Carter Matt, the most recent development that occurred in the last episode has many wondering if things are officially over for the couple.
In fact, in the last installment of the hit political drama, Olivia and Fitz became engaged in order to avoid a testimony at the impeachment proceedings. However, in a moment of panic, Olivia returned the engagement ring Fitz gave her and abandoned their plans to marry each other.
According to Realty Today, Olivia then reached out to Rowan (Joe Morton) for help. Rowan agreed to help her out and get the case against Fitz dropped if she could get him out of jail. In order to accomplish this, Olivia then turned to Mellie (Bellamy Young), Fitz’s ex-wife, who helped free her father.
At this point, it is anyone’s guess at how Fitz will react when he finds out that Mellie and Olivia worked together to spring Rowan from prison. More than likely, the President is not going to take the news kindly. With that in mind, will the coming episode, titled “Rasputin,” feature a final split for Olivia and Fitz?
While the end seems fast approaching for the new couple, Fitz will have other things on his plate to deal with besides everything that is going down in his personal life. In fact, the synopsis for the episode reveals that Fitz will be concentrating on his foreign relations and brokering a huge peace deal. Perhaps this will distract Fitz enough to allow some space for his relationship with Olivia to grow.
Meanwhile, Olivia will also be dealing with other issues after a White House guest leaks some important and secret information. Exactly what this information is about is not known at this time, but it will surely add even more complication to everything Olivia is dealing with at the moment.
Speaking of Olivia’s problematic life, the character is still working with her new client in the upcoming episode. While Olivia deals with her own work, Elizabeth North (Portia de Rossi) is setting herself up for a major comeback after being booted from her position in the White House. According to International Business Times, Elizabeth’s plans are unknown at this time, but they are sure to lead to the downfall of someone’s career.
At the same time, Jake partners again with Huck in order to close in on his target, while Cyrus tries to take control of his own situation after discovering he has been left out of the President’s inner circle. Does this mean there is some major fallout ahead between Fitz and Cyrus? Given everything Fitz has done in order to get Cyrus back, it is a puzzling question as to why he has decided to shut him out now.
Fans can watch all the drama unfold, and find out what is in store Fitz and Olivia, when the next episode of Scandal airs November 12 on ABC.
