Ariana Grande, Ariel Winter Boost Body Image On Social Media: Ariana Tackles ‘Racism, Intolerance & Sexism’

Ariana Grande and Ariel Winter are teaming up against body shaming. Ariana began the war of words when she read a comment that contrasted the slim shape of Grande to the curvy body of Ariel. Defending Winter as well as herself, Ariana also spoke out about her views on body image among young women, reported the Daily Mail.

Grande began by sharing the comment.

“Got asked if I’d prefer @arielwinter1 or @ArianaGrande lol, it wud DEFINITELY be @arielwinter1. Curves are sexy sticks aren’t,” was the slam that the 22-year-old singer re-shared and then fought against.

Because the comment had involved Ariel as well, Winter became immersed in the fight. Like Ariana, Ariel has sought to make a difference in body image among women. The 17-year-old actress spent years trying to hide her breasts by taping them down. Finally, Winter revealed that she decided to end her battle by undergoing surgery that reduced her breasts from 32F to 34D.

Grande hasn’t limited herself to social media in trying to change body image issues among society. Ariana also responded when asked about cosmetics, unicorn emojis, and her phone in an interview at The Power 106 FM studios in southern California. When Grande heard the DJ hosts Justin Credible and Eric D-Luxe interrogate her in ways she views as sexist, the pop singer slammed back.

One question, for example, asked whether Ariana would select her phone or makeup to use a final time.

“Is this what you think girls have trouble choosing between? Is this men assuming that that’s what girls would have to choose between?” demanded Grande.

But at least one DJ apparently didn’t get her message. He responded by questioning how long she could last without checking her phone.

Ariana informed him that she could go for hours because when she’s with others, such as dining with other people, she seeks to maintain eye contact and stay in the moment. Grande was interrupted by a host inferring that only women had a problem with checking their cell phone.

“Listen and learn, ladies,” instructed the DJ.

Ariana then corrected him, saying that both “boys and girls” could learn. Grande also shared that her favorite new emjois ranged from the unicorn to the lion and Vulcan sign.

“Girls,” sneered one DJ.

Ariana again fired back, informing him that guys use the unicorn too, and encouraging him to brush up on equal rights. Grande also shared that her goals include halting people passing judgement on each other, as well as what she termed a lengthy list.

“I have a long list of things I’d like to change… I think, judgement in general. Intolerance, meanness, double standards, misogyny, racism, sexism… We’ve got work to do,” said Ariana.

And the latest work seems to be resulting from the comparison of Grande to Ariel in reference to the more curvy shape of Winter versus the slimmer body of Ariana, reported People.

“Curves are sexy sticks aren’t,” was the remark that caused the most dissension.

Grande responded with determination to make her point against the body-shaming comment.

“Sigh …. comments… like this are not okay,” wrote Ariana. “We live in a day and age where people make it IMPOSSIBLE for women, men, anyone to embrace themselves exactly how they are. Diversity is sexy! Loving yourself is sexy!” wrote Ariana.

Grande also turned around the slam to provide her views on what she feels is wrong, while advocating positive views on all types of bodies.

“You know what is NOT sexy? Misogyny, objectifying, labeling, comparing and body shaming!!! Talking about people’s body’s as if they’re on display ASKING for your approval / opinion. THEY ARE NOT!!!! CELEBRATE YOURSELF. CELEBRATE OTHERS. The things that make us different from one another make us BEAUTIFUL.”

Ariel then took up the sword against body shaming. Winter, who co-stars on Modern Family, also has sought to make a difference when it comes to women and body image.

When she read what Ariana had written, Ariel cheered for Grande.

“Thank you @ArianaGrande. Women should empower one another.Celebrate each other- you’re all beautiful,” wrote Winter.
