Ariana Grande Snaps Back At Body Shamer Who Complained That She Was Too … Skinny?

Many celebrities have been standing up in support of body positivity. From the pro-plus-size message behind Meghan Trainor’s smash-hit “All About That Bass” to the growing popularity of fighter Ronda Rousey and her beefy physique, the public perception of body image is slowly shifting toward diversity and acceptance.

Among all the defiance against fat shaming, it’s rare that a celebrity fights back against skinny shaming. But that’s exactly what pop singer Ariana Grande did in response to an insensitive Instagram comment that called her body a “stick” in comparison to the “sexy” curves of Modern Family star Ariel Winter. Frustrated about body shaming in any context, Ariana Grande wrote an angry rebuttal, defending herself and all women who face criticism for their body type–whatever it may be.

According to Billboard, Ariana Grande shared the lengthy message on Twitter, making a point to remind her followers to love yourself.

“here we go again,” Grande captioned the image. “Sure I’m not the only 1 feeling this way today!! in case you need a reminder, you’re beautiful.”

Ariana Grande made a point to call out body shamers for criticizing women of any kind, even celebrities, who may seem like they willingly put themselves on display to be evaluated by anyone with an opinion.

“Sigh …. tweets, comments, statement like this are not okay,” said Ariana Grande. “About anyone!!! We live in a day and age where people make it IMPOSSIBLE for women, men, anyone to embrace themselves exactly how they are. Diversity is sexy! Loving yourself is sexy!”

Ariana Grande took the response a step further by claiming that body shaming stems from the deeper problem of sexism embedded in modern society.

“You know what is NOT sexy? Misogyny, objectifying, labeling, comparing and body shaming!!! Talking about people’s body’s as if they’re on display ASKING for your approval / opinion. THEY ARE NOT!!!! CELEBRATE YOURSELF. CELEBRATE OTHERS. The things that make us different from one another make us BEAUTIFUL. BODY BOUNDARIES. LOVE LOVE LOVE ONLY.”

Fans of Ariana Grande were overwhelmingly supportive of her body-positive message, tweeting back countless replies of thanks and encouragement.

“I’m so proud to be your fan!” wrote one user.

“you’re amazing and such a great inspiration for all of us… you’re everything and we love you,” said another.

One follower addressed the original comment left on Instagram, saying, “wow that disgusts me. People are so unaware of how rude these remarks are??? we’re all different for a reason. U r PERFECT bye.”

But the singer’s fans weren’t the only ones to notice the post. Ariel Winter, who was compared to Ariana Grande in the initial comment, responded to the tweet with her own message of self love.

Ariana Grande responded to Ariel Winter by calling her “pretty mama.”

Winter wrote back, “The feeling is 10000% mutual gorgeous.”
