Billy Corgan Pisses on Radiohead

Billy Corgan isn’t quite known for speaking his mind against other musicians but the Smashing Pumpkin’s front man had a few choice words for Radiohead.

Speaking out about how the genre of rock is viewed in mainstream culture, Corgan called Radiohead “pompous” by saying. “I can’t think of any people outside of Weird Al Yankovic who have both embraced and pissed on rock more than I have. Obviously there’s a level of reverence, but there’s also a level of intelligence to even know what to piss on.”

The musician then went on to explain his stance on popular rock band Radiohead and their work. “Because I’m not pissing on Rainbow. I’m not pissing on Deep Purple. But I’ll piss on fucking Radiohead, because of all this pomposity. This value system that says Jonny Greenwood is more valuable than Ritchie Blackmore. Not in the world I grew up in.”

If that isn’t enough, Billy Corgan, who’s been taking up side projects since the mini Smashing Pumpkins reunion in 2006, went on to compare himself to his rock musician peers, “Is Ritchie Blackmore a better guitar player than me and Jonny Greenwood? Yes. Have we all made contributions? Yes. I’m not attacking that. I’m attacking the pomposity that says this is more valuable than that. I’m sick of that. I’m so fucking sick of it, and nobody seems to tire of it.”

The singer who usually remains quiet hasn’t had a big headlining news story since his brief romance with singer Jessica Simpson in 2010.
