Kim Kardashian and her 11-season reality television show have recently hit some bumps in the ratings — but is Christina Milian’s Turned Up the new KUWTK replacement?
Recently, E! Online placed Christina Milian’s show next to Kim Kardashian’s (and others) calling them “the most famous TV families.” The first famous family featured in their slideshow is Christina Milian’s from Turned Up. Following later, KUWTK is featured.
Could this be a hint that the ratings this season are expected to go toward Christina Milian’s reality TV show?
This is easy to imagine since, compared to Kim Kardashian, Christina Milian has more going on that could draw in the ratings for Turned Up — and some of her side-projects may help.
For example, a recent Daily Mail article reports that her show with John Stamos, Grandfathered, just got an order for another nine episodes, while other TV shows were canceled.
Christina Milian also has a lot of celebrity friends that share the same circles as Kim Kardashian, and some of these celebs are expected to be guests on Turned Up.
In a separate article, E! Online states, “Taylor Swift isn’t the only one with a serious celeb squad, Christina Milian’s list of BFFs will make your jaw drop! [Christina Milian] has a ton of famous friends, including Rihanna, Kanye West, Katy Perry and Karrueche Tran.”
Along with that, Christina Milian is more multifaceted than the Kardashians since she has careers in acting, singing, and her various businesses.
Fashion and Style states, “But just because she’s taking things up a notch [in season two] doesn’t mean that Christina’s slacking when it comes to business. She’s turning up her career too! In the studio, in the boardroom, on photo shoots, in the gym…”
Plus, it appears that the Kardashians are falling apart. In a print-only edition of In Touch dated November 9, they state that Khloe and Kourtney are thinking of quitting KUWTK, and this could seriously affect their already-slumping ratings.
Hollywood Life adds to this with the following.
“Could Keeping Up With The Kardashians be losing two of its main characters? As both Khloe Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian deal with stressful situations with their respective exes, they are allegedly quickly losing interest in being on the show. In fact, a new report says they’re done!”
As far as dicey ratings go, In Touch also reports that the KUWTK mid-season premiere in September only had 1.3 million viewers (season 10’s debut had 2.3 million).
On the other hand, Turned Up has similar ratings — and perhaps a more cheerful disposition than KUWTK. Christina Milian’s first season of Turned Up premiered on Sunday, January 18, with about 700,000 views the first week and 850,000 the next week, according to Headline Planet.
Christina Milian’s first season of her show was also placed in a tough Sunday night slot that had her competing with other shows like those from the WWE, but this year Turned Up will have a new chance with ratings since season 2 will air on Tuesdays.
Other angles that may mean Christina Milian’s show beats out KUWTK in the ratings is that viewers are still getting to know the Milian family. The first season of Turned Up seemed to focus on details about Christina Milian, but season 2 is placing a sharp focus on the lives of her other relatives.
For instance, US Magazine points out that the new trailers for Christina Milian’s Turned Up feature her sister Danielle Milian giving emotional details about the loss of her newborn son this summer.
Does all of this mean that America will soon know the names Carmen, Danielle, Violet, and Lizzy as well as they do Kylie, Kendall, North West, and Kourtney?
For now, it appears that the two shows will not be directly competing with each other since KUWTK has the 9 p.m. Sunday slot (the same as season 10) and Christina Milian’s show was shifted from Sunday night (season 1) and placed in the 10 p.m. Tuesday slot.
Regardless, both shows are on the same network, and they will likely anticipate the ratings.
According to Variety, Keeping Up With the Kardashians season 11 will premiere on November 15 at 9 p.m. They will have three TV specials on November 1, December 1, and December 8 — all on the E! Network.
The season 2 premiere of Christina Milian Turned Up will begin on Tuesday, November 3, at 10 p.m. on the E! Network.
