Fans can watch the 2015 Rugby World Cup final live online and see whether Australia or New Zealand goes home with the championship.
The rival nations are facing off in the final of the world’s top rugby contest, with the All Blacks looking for yet another title and the Wallabies looking to spark a big upset. The match starts at 4 p.m. local time from London, meaning those in Australia will have to stay up until 1 a.m. to watch.
Fans who watch the 2015 Rugby World Cup live online could see a tight contest, noted Paul Rees in his analysis from The Guardian. Rees noted that no team has really done well against the All Blacks in the past four years, but Australia seems to have done the best, with a win and two draws along with a number of close contests.
“Whatever their travails off the pitch or their problems up front, their one constant has been an ability to compete with New Zealand at the breakdown, the single most important area in the modern game. In Sydney in August, the Wallabies started David Pocock and Michael Hooper, Pooper as they have become known, in the back row for the first time and the result was 14 turnovers in the opening half.”
The teams met twice in August, with the teams splitting the contests. Australia won the first match, the team’s first win over the All Blacks in the last four years. Australia dominated possession in the contest, with Pocock and Hooper controlling the match.
But New Zealand bounced back in the next contest, defeating Australia by a score of 41-13 on August 15. Australia was short handed in the match, with Quade Cooper taking the place of Bernard Foley and struggling to do so. Pocock was also benched.
The second match may not be a good marker for how Saturday’s World Cup Final will go. Australia defeated New Zealand in the Rugby Championship, a match with a lot on the line, while the rematch the following week was something close to a friendly international match.
With a win over the All Blacks in the last few months, Australia may have an edge in the World Cup Final, Rees noted. He predicted that Australia would pull off the upset, repeating their success in the U.K.
“Someone has to go for them,” Rees wrote. “They have never lost a World Cup match on British and Irish soil, they know they can beat the All Blacks, they have been the most effective team at the breakdown this tournament and Michael Cheika keeps them ravenous.”
But most other experts are picking the All Blacks to continue their dominance, winning the World Cup Final.
New Zealand coach Steve Hansen said with weather conditions good in Twickingham, it should be an exciting game for rugby fans to watch.
“The pressure will be on both teams, but I don’t think that will inhibit either one of them,” he said. “The Australian team will play to their strengths, and we will play to ours. Given the conditions are okay, I think we will see see some running rugby. Whether that results in a lot of tries depends on how good the defenses are. We are looking forward to it immensely. I know, win or lose, we will put in a performance we will be proud of.”
